π₯ Bushfire Firefighters CAN enter your property in WA π₯
During a Bushfire, every second counts and in Western Australia, Volunteer Bushfire Firefighters have legal authority to enter land to protect lives and property.
Under the Bush Fires Act 1954 (WA), authorised personnel such as Bushfire Control Officers and those working under their direction can enter any land or building at any time to investigate, control, or prevent fires, and to deal with fire hazards.
This means that when a fire is threatening -
π Firefighters do NOT need your permission to enter your property
π Their priority is life safety, fire control, and stopping the spread
π They may inspect hazards, fight fires, and take necessary action like putting fires out that have illegal light during Prohibited times
While Firefighters will always try to communicate with property owners where possible, the law recognises that in an emergency, immediate action comes first, delays can cost homes and lives.
Volunteer Bushfire Brigades operate under Local Government and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES), responding to fires across our community to protect.
π¬ What this means for you -
If Firefighters enter your property during a Bushfire, they are there to help, often risking their own safety to protect yours.
Letβs support our Volunteer Firefighters and understand the laws that allow them to do their job when it matters most. π
Letβs not make an already dangerous situation harder than it needs to be. Firefighters are there to protect lives and property, if access is delayed or refused, it can put everyone at risk. No one wants a situation where police π¨ have to be called just so crews can do their job. Work with them, not against them. πͺ
