Have you been caught out by spam or scammers lately?
It doesn't matter how much software you have or how many technical devices you have around you to combat this, there is always going to be a way that this crap will still get in. The best form of defence is education and awareness!
If you EVER receive an email from someone you've never heard of, or the language in the email is broken English, or there is a link asking you to verify yourself, or an attachment you need to download......JUST DELETE THE EMAIL. If it's really that important, you'll be notified another way.
Often you can tell by the actual email address of the sender if its legit or not. Also, hovering your mouse over any of the links in the body of the email will show you that its not related to the supposed sender. See the image below.
Microsoft, anti virus companies like Trent and Norton will never contact you proactively to 'help protect you'. Your bank will never send you an email asking you to select a link to log on, instead they will just shut your account and usually you need to contact them.
Majority of the time anyone contacting you proactively is usually something you should be very cautious of. If you're ever in doubt, tell them you want to hang up and you will call them back on their official contact centre number and ask them for a reference number.
If you're still unsure, before you click on anything, feel free to contact me and I will happily assist in diagnosing it's legitimacy.
