Today is thank a first responder day. So thank you, thank you to all of our members in our brigade, without you, we wouldn’t be able to do what we do for our community. To be able to be there in a time of need and to support them after a difficult time.

Thank you to all other volunteers from other different agencies, without them, communities would be left alone. SES Upper Yarra Unit Surf Life Saving Australia Australian Volunteer Coast Guard and those I have forgotten.

Thank you to all other agencies, Ambulance Victoria, Victoria Police and those I have forgotten.

To be able to work along side some of these agencies is an honour. To be supported by them at our call-outs is amazing and we thank them.

And most importantly, thank you to the families of those volunteers who keep everything running at home when our pager goes off and we have to run out the door.

💙 Big Freeze at The Nest 💙

🧊 Sunday 14th June, from 12pm 🧊

We are raising funds in support of fighting MND - come down and support, and maybe even jump into the ice bath yourself! 🥶

We have home games from 8:50am, the canteen and bbq will be open and we invite the community to pop past and support our Mini Big Freeze!!

Our awesome community friends at Yarra Junction Fire Brigade (CFA) and SES Upper Yarra Unit are also supporting the cause - and we may even see some of our fave volunteers also jump in the ice!!

On Sunday 14th June, our Captain Steve along with a couple of other members will be showing our support to help raise needed funds for MND by taking on the ice bath Challenge.

Head on down to Yarra Junction oval at 12pm to cheer us on. Members from SES Upper Yarra Unit will also be taking part.

I put the challenge out their to all other brigade captains and members in the valley and Yarra Valley Group officers to come along and take part in this great fundraising event. If you are able to, please head along to the link and donate what you can.

Our friends over at Yarra Junction Eagles Junior Footy Club are once again holding their trivia night fundraising event.

This is a great opportunity for a fun night out with family or friends with great prizes to be won.

Tonight we trained as if it was a real fire.

We placed bunting and bollards around to simulate an external house layout.

We used BA (breathing apparatus) to go inside the house to do an internal search for any possible casualties and ascertain the origin of the fire.

Once we did this, we extinguished the fire and simulated ventilating the property.

What a great night learning new skills and refreshing our memories for those who have this internal firefighting qualification.

Our lovely friends at Healesville Greyhounds are holding a fundraising event for MND on Sunday June 7.

Watch them ride down their slide 🛝 to raise funds for Fight MND as part of the Big Freeze 12.

This is a great cause so if you are after something fun to do on a Sunday, head on down for some live music, family entertainment and best of all, free entry.

Last night we changed things up a bit for training.

With the weather closing in we had an inside night.

We were lucky enough to have our local Ambulance Victoria members from across the road come over and give us a refresher in our Fire Medical Response training and a show and tell on the AV appliance. We were also joined by Little Yarra CFA who made their way down in the wet to come and have a look.

We utilised the skills of our neighbours to run us through our oxygen therapy, CPR and trauma related cardiac patients.

To say this was invaluable is an understatement. Being able to build relationships with our friends at AV is an honour as we work side by side with them at a lot of jobs we go to.

Thank you to Bec, Daniel, Tash and Jarryd for all your help and knowledge last night. Can’t wait to do it again.
