With over 20 years experience with Australias amazing wildlife also with the public, Black Snake productions was founded in November 2006 by owner Michael Alexander. We have a massive range of animals from the crocodile species, all types of birds, huge lizards, carnivorous marsupials, dingoes, the world’s most venomous snakes, endangered frogs as well as spine chilling spiders and scorpions. The

best part is that we come to you all over Victoria and also around Australia, giving you the chance to touch, hold and experience these animals close up with complete safety and in the comfort of your own home or chosen venue. We have full public liability ($20 million) for all events, police checks, working with children checks and full wildlife licensing. We are are family run business and both Michael and Ebony would love to introduce you to our zoo at your event!

The dingoes loved a bit of enrichment with some leaves from invasive European trees. Absolutely so important to give our animals constant enrichment, its a big part of our animal welfare and keeps them mentally healthy.

Something we have to see and hear every day, people dont know what a bettong is but think its cruel to remove deer from the bush. So many people that think feral horses are wildlife or should be considered heritage when they are driving species to extinction that are truly heritage.
Australia's extinction crisis is driven by invasive species.

Invasive predators are being normalised while native species are being driven towards extinction.

Swift parrots are one of Australia’s most critically endangered birds, with habitat loss and predation pushing them closer to extinction every year.

Captive breeding programs may play an important role in helping secure the future of this incredible species, but protecting flowering eucalypt forests and natural nesting habitat is just as critical.

These tiny parrots travel huge distances across south-eastern Australia, relying on healthy native forests to survive. Without habitat, there is no future for swift parrots.
We are excited to have the opportunity to try and breed these gorgeous little birds in our flight aviary at Black Snake Productions

With the cold weather and rain settling in, it’s easy to feel a little gloomy — but outside, a magical world is quietly coming to life 🍄✨

These were just some of the incredible mushrooms we discovered on a walk through our neighbourhood. A simple fungus hunt with your kids can turn an ordinary walk into an exciting adventure filled with curiosity, discovery, and learning.

Fungi are some of the most remarkable and important organisms on Earth. Beneath our feet, vast underground fungal networks help plants share nutrients, send warning signals, and communicate through their root systems — often called the “Wood Wide Web.” 🌱

The world of mushrooms is mysterious, beautiful, and endlessly fascinating… and it’s waiting to be explored right outside your door. 🍂🍄

Share some of your exciting mushroom finds!

After a full day teaching endangered species programs — and driving past street after street lined with deciduous trees that offer little shelter, habitat, food or pollen for native wildlife — it really reinforced how important it is to plant native habitat in our urban landscapes.

Over the past six years, we’ve planted every possible space on our property with flowering, habitat-friendly Australian natives, and the difference has been incredible. The increase in birdlife, pollinators, reptiles and other wildlife has been absolutely remarkable.

Instead of filling our gardens and streets with plants like agapanthus and other species that contribute very little to local ecosystems, imagine the impact we could have by planting native species that actively support wildlife year-round.

Australia has an amazing range of beautiful native plants to choose from — flowering eucalypts, wattles, bottlebrushes, banksias and countless others that provide food, shelter and nesting habitat while keeping our landscapes alive with colour and activity through every season.

To help show the difference habitat trees can make, I’ve attached this fantastic artwork by [Paperbark Writer](https://www.paperbarkwriter.com/tree-hollows-are-animal-homes/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) — a simple but powerful reminder that the trees we plant today directly shape the future for our wildlife.

We love our community! ❤️

For over 20 years, the Upper Yarra Valley community has supported Black Snake Productions in so many ways, and giving back to our local community is something we are incredibly passionate about.

Whether it’s helping with rubbish clean-ups along the river and through the Redwoods, running free snake safety seminars, or bringing wildlife education to local events, we are always proud to support the community that supports us.

Today we’ll be at the Millgrove Market from 9am–2pm with a FREE wildlife display, giving everyone the chance to get up close with some amazing native animals and learn more about Australia’s unique wildlife.

Come down, say hello, and enjoy a great community day out!
