Yarragon Volunteer Fire Brigade

Yarragon Volunteer Fire Brigade The Yarragon Urban Fire Brigade was formed in 1944. Volunteering with CFA is not just about firefighting. If you would like to come meet our team, feel free!

Yarragon Fire Brigade is local members of the community who all volunteer their time to provide emergency support to our surrounding area's as well as other regions. On the 13th of August 1946 a public meeting was held to form a rural brigade and was then called the Yarragon & District Rural Bush Fire Brigade, with the headquarters at Yarragon and covering the area of Yarragon, Yarragon South, Sha

dy Creek and Allambee. We welcome different people with different skills to meet a wide variety of community needs. The CFA don't just fight fires, they are also involved helping with car accidents, and other fire and rescue related incidents. The Yarragon fire brigade also participate in community events, such as Lions Club Christmas Raffle, Australia Day Flag Raising Ceremony and the Annual Yarragon Fire Brigade Book Fair. The Yarragon Fire Brigade are always open to helping the community. We meet every Monday night 7:30 on wards. 1st Monday is Training, and 2nd is meeting. The others are maintenance and training.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them."

Less we forget.

Yesterday, Yarragon fire brigade was called to a grass fire burning on farmland north of the highway. The fire was reported to have spread to nearby trees, and very thick smoke could be seen from Yarragon. Trafalgar made a very quick call to increase the number of tankers responding to five. Although it was a small fire, supplying water to the trucks was going to be a problem. The fire was quickly brought under control with only about one hectare of property burned and superficial damage to some nearby trees.

The fire appears to have been started in an old fire pit which the owner said had not been used for several months. It is likely that the fire was smouldering underground for sometime before finally igniting the very dry grass on the surface and then quickly spreading to a nearby shelter belt.

It is a timely reminder that with the ground so very dry, fire can burn the organic matter underground for a very long time.

Well done and a huge thankyou to all members involved.
