A big thank you to Priscilla Grimme, Operations Manager Unit Support (Act) West Gippsland Unit Support Team for visiting the SES Yarram Unit last night to formally announce that Fiona O’Connor was successful in her interview and will serve the Yarram Community for another two years as SES Yarram Unit Controller.
Fiona has over fifty years of volunteering under her belt. It began in her university years with a community education project to help disadvantaged school students, then volunteering in a number of environmental programs, including landcare, bush reforestation, wildlife rescue and rehabilitation, then on to volunteering for St Vincent de Paul, VICSES and Red Cross Patient Transport and Red Cross Emergency Services. Last year, Fiona joined Future of Yarram’s Strzelecki Koala Innovation Working Group as a committee member. Fiona began volunteering with VICSES in 2014 and took on the additional role of a Peer Support Officer with VICSES in 2022.
We are incredibly grateful that Fiona has volunteered to serve as Unit Controller for us. “I have a vision for Yarram SES. In the next two years, I want to ensure our unit is sustainable so we can continue to work with other emergency responders in serving our community and keeping it safe,” said Fiona. With her vision and the ongoing support from the regional Unit Support Team (UST), we can’t wait to see what the next couple of years hold for the SES Yarram Unit. Please join us in congratulating Fiona on this achievement and in thanking her for her continued service to the community.
