πŸ”₯ FIRE DANGER PERIOD UPDATE – WELLINGTON SHIRE πŸ”₯

Great news for our community! The Fire Danger Period for Wellington Shire Council comes to an end at 1am on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.

While this means fire restrictions will be lifted, the CFA reminds all residents and landowners to stay vigilant β€” conditions can still change quickly on hot, dry, and windy days.

⚠️ PLANNING A BURN-OFF? YOU MUST STILL REGISTER IT!

Even after the Fire Danger Period ends, all burn-offs must be registered. If smoke or fire is reported, it will be cross-checked with the register to avoid unnecessary emergency callouts for CFA crews.

βœ… Register your burn-off:
πŸ“ž Call: 1800 668 511
πŸ’» Online: www.firepermits.vic.gov.au

Before you burn, remember to:
β€’ Check local conditions and the forecast
β€’ Notify your neighbours
β€’ Have water and resources on hand at all times
β€’ Never leave your burn-off unattended
β€’ If your burn-off gets out of control, call 000 immediately

For more information on fire restrictions and the Fire Danger Period, visit the CFA website: www.cfa.vic.gov.au/warnings-restrictions/fire-danger-period

Stay safe! πŸ’š

Please note the closures for your safety & the firefighters & Machinery operators in the area.

Dargo - and surrounding forests, parks and roads - will stay closed to visitors this Australia Day long weekend.

We know this is usually a very popular time for tourists, but bushfires in the area are still active and could get worse in the hotter weather this weekend.

Hotter conditions can cause flare ups and additional fire activity - adding to the risk already existing from the Wonnangatta-Dargo 52,000 hectare fire complex. Conditions can change very quickly.

Do not illegally go camping or four-wheel driving in closed areas. Both for your own safety and that of our many firefighters and machinery operators who are in these areas carrying out important works.

There are so many other amazing areas across East Gippsland and the High Country that you can head out to explore instead - until conditions are safer and Dargo can welcome you back.

Current closures include:
β€’ Parts of the Alpine National Park
β€’ Mitchell River National Park
β€’ State Forests around Dargo
β€’ Blue Pool – and all sites north from there along Freestone Creek Road
