The effects of the floods are starting to come clear. After the Yea township received around 140mm of rain over a 24hr period and the catchments of the Yea river and Murrindindi river both received almost 200mm, there was evidently a substantial amount of flooding in Yea township and surrounding areas.

Today there are many crews from Murrindindi Shire Council, Victoria Police, Victoria State Emergency Service, VicRoads and the CFA (Country Fire Authority) assessing areas around the town that were impacted by floodwaters.

We would like to remind everyone that there are still a few roads that are impacted by floodwaters and that are impassable!

Lastly we would like to give a special thanks to Alexandra Fire Brigade, SES Alexandra Unit, Yea Police Station and local CFA brigades for their amazing assistance!

How easily can firefighting appliances enter your property?

It is quite common that in an emergency our appliances are heavily restricted trying to gain access onto properties due to driveways and laneways having overgrown trees and scrub or narrow gateways and fences. If possible your property should be easily accessible for emergency vehicles to enter not only during summer but all year round!

For tips on how to keep your property well maintained and accessible please see the ’Access Requirements’ on the CFA website.
