🏠 Housing remains one of the biggest challenges facing regional communities, including York.

Shire of York CEO Alina Behan recently attended the WA Housing Forum in Perth, joining government, industry and local government representatives to discuss the opportunities and challenges shaping housing across Western Australia.

The forum covered topics including housing supply, workforce shortages, planning and regulation, innovation, and emerging technologies.

Participation in events such as these helps ensure regional perspectives are represented in statewide conversations and supports the Shire's ongoing advocacy for housing outcomes that benefit York and the wider Wheatbelt region.

⚡ Planned Power Outage - Shire Facilities ⚡

The Shire of York has been notified by Western Power of a planned power outage on Friday 19 June 2026 from 8:30am to 3:30pm while essential maintenance works are undertaken to improve network reliability.

As a result, the following Shire facilities may experience temporary service disruptions during this time:

🏛️ Shire Administration Office
🏛️ Town Hall
ℹ️ Visitor Centre
💻 Community Resource Centre (CRC)
🚻 Avon Park Public Toilets

The Shire of York is pleased to announce the appointment of Alina Behan as Chief Executive Officer.

Following a recruitment process led by Council and supported by an independent HR consultant, Council appointed Alina to lead the organisation.

Shire President Cr Chris Gibbs welcomed the appointment, saying:

"Council is pleased to appoint Alina Behan as Chief Executive Officer. Alina brings strong leadership capability, extensive organisational knowledge and a clear understanding of the priorities and opportunities for the Shire of York. The Council and Administration will continue to work towards excellent outcomes and capitalise on initiatives developed with and by Alina during her time at the time at the Shire.”

Alina Behan said she was looking forward to continuing to work with Council, staff and the community.

"York is a wonderful community and I am excited to work alongside Council, our fantastic team and residents as we build on the great work already underway and keep delivering positive outcomes for our Shire."

🏍️ ORV Annual Track Maintenance & Upgrade Works 🛠️

The Oliver Battista Motocross Track will be closed from Tuesday 9 June to Sunday 14 June 2026 while essential annual maintenance and upgrade works are carried out.

🚜 The temporary closure is required to ensure the safety of riders and contractors while heavy machinery operates throughout the facility.

Works will include:
✅ Annual maintenance of the main track
✅ Drainage improvements to maintain track standards and ride quality
✅ Realignment and upgrades to the Nippers Track for improved safety and flow
✅ Ground preparation works to support future revegetation projects 🌱

These works are important to ensure the facility continues to provide a safe, high-quality riding experience for all users.

🏍️ The track is scheduled to reopen on Monday 15 June 2026, with all maintenance and upgrade works completed.
