🐾Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week🐾

This week, we proudly recognize Animal Care and Control Appreciation Week, celebrated each year during the second week of April 📅

It’s a time to honor the dedicated animal control officers and animal service staff who work tirelessly—often behind the scenes—to protect both our communities and the animals we share them with 🌎🏡🐾

Just like other law enforcement professionals, these compassionate individuals put in long hours and face challenging, sometimes dangerous situations, all in service of public safety and animal welfare. No matter the time of day or night, they show up with commitment, courage, and care 💪

This week is about offering gratitude and support to professionals who are too often seen only in difficult moments. Today, we choose to shine a positive light on the invaluable work they do every single day 🫶

💙 Thank you for your dedication, your compassion, and your service. We appreciate you!

🐾 February may be ending, but the love never stops! 🐾

Did you know February is also Responsible Pet Owners Month? Sure, Valentine’s Day gets all the attention - but let’s be honest… who loves you every single day without fail? Your dog. Your cat. Your other furry or feathered sidekick 🥰

From tail wags and happy dances to purrs, nuzzles, and the occasional “I definitely didn’t do that” look, our pets remind us just how special that bond is and how much better life is with them. And with all that unconditional love comes a big responsibility 📝

For nearly 10,000 years - since humans first began keeping animals as companions - pets have relied on us for the same essentials we value ourselves: safe shelter, nourishing food and water, good overall and dental health, and, above all, LOVE. It is the duty of every owner or “pet parent” to provide these necessities and give them the very best❣️

Sadly, too many animals around the world still face neglect and abuse. Let this be a reminder to go the extra mile in caring for our pets and to help create a world where every animal is loved and protected ❤️

❤️🐾

On February 20, USA celebrates Love Your Pet Day❣️
It is a day to embrace one special trait that makes us human: our love for our pets! ❤️🐾
There are many things that differentiate humans from the rest of the animal kingdom, but one unusual behavior is our longstanding tendency to keep other animals as pets 🏡❤️🐶&🐱&🐠
According to CBS' statistics, in 2019 about 52% of Aruban households owned at least one cat/dog; 87% 1 or more dogs (mean number is 2) & 33% 1 or more cats (mean number is 1) 📊
It only makes sense to also commemorate something that’s so important to so many people also here in Aruba, so on February 20, we too should celebrate our pets with our own National Love Your Pet Day ❤️🐕❤️🐾❤️🐈❤️

On January 24th it’s “change a pet’s life day” ✨
January is also “unchain a dog month” ⛓️‍💥

In Aruba, still many pets are kept chained …
If you cannot invest in constructing a safe and enclosed yard for your dog so you too can comply with the law, please reach out to one of the many foundations across the island so they can help you set it up 🚧
You’ll change your pet’s life and your pet will forever thank you for that 🐾❤️🏡

You can also change a pet's life by adopting one (or two) out 🥹❤️
All shelters on the island are (over)crowded and are looking for furever-parents or fosters for their animals 🏡❤️🐾
Swing by one, and change a pet's life - they will be forever thankful❣️

If you are thinking about adding a four-legged friend to your family, then perhaps you could open your home and your heart to an older dog or cat in need❤️🐾

Adopt A Senior Pet Month is celebrated during November, which reminds people of older cats and dogs that are in shelters and waiting to be adopted🙏🔜🏠

Pets are the easiest way to bring warmth into your life ❣️
So if you are thinking about getting a pet, consider opening your heart to a senior animal🫶

Many people walk into a shelter hoping to adopt a puppy or a kitten, while overlooking the older animals living in the same shelter. Puppies and kittens are cute, but adopting a senior animal can be a life-changing experience for you and that pet too. Older pets are seen as less desirable; however, they are often easier to adopt than younger animals. Not only are older pets often easier to handle, but they are at least just as loyal and loving as the younger ones, or even more so. These pets have much to offer, and they are usually adaptable. Younger pets can be adorable, but they also demand a lot of attention and can be destructive and very hard work to keep up with. Usually, an older pet can easily fit into your lifestyle and adapt well to a loving new home🐱❤️🏡

Sadly, senior pets are often the last ones to be adopted from the shelter. Most never find a home and spend the rest of their lives caged inside a shelter kennel. They spend the longest amount of time at shelters, which also puts them at an increased risk of being euthanized...

Please visit the nearest shelter to meet your new best friend and be openminded to adopt a senior pet which will be forever grateful to you🐈🐕
