get ready, get set, GO!!🚗💨🍃
these rothschildia caterpillars have been munching happily away on one of our durantas in the garden😋 they have actually almost eaten the entire plant in under two weeks, and there’s only 11 of them!
we are going to have to swap them gently over to a fresh plant because they’re still only around the halfway mark of their caterpillar stage, and to survive they require constant food🌱
to maintain a thriving garden, while also raising caterpillars can be challenging🐛 essentially it is a delicate balance of life—keeping the plants healthy, and providing enough food for insatiable caterpillars
but as challenging as it can be, it is even more rewarding! witnessing each stage of the butterfly’s (or in this case moth) life is something one doesn’t tire of
and guess what—research has taught us that butterflies that you raise as caterpillars can remember you based on your scent🥹
