COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES 🤔

Betweenn vs Among

Use between when referring to one-to-one relationships.
You can use between when there are more than two elements involved:

"He had to choose between a bicycle, a train set, a pair of sneakers, and a new backpack for his birthday present." 🚴‍♂️🚂👟🎒

Use among when referring to indistinct or nonspecific relationships.
Among is used when talking about people or things that are not distinct and are viewed as a group:

"She only ever felt comfortable when she was among her friends." 👀

BUSSINES ENGLISH 👩‍🏫

Todays word is "consensus". 🤔

And it means a generally accepted opinion or decision among a group of people:
"The general consensus in the office is that he can't do his job."
--------------------------------------
POSLOVNI ENGLESKI 👩‍🏫

Današnja riječ je "konsenzus". 🤔

A to znači opšteprihvaćeno mišljenje ili odluku među grupom ljudi:
"Opšti konsenzus u kancelariji je da on ne može da radi svoj posao."

"HOW DOES IT SOUND IN ENGLISH?"

How our statements/sayings/phrases sound in English! 😅

"Better a sparrow in the hand than a pigeon on a branch!",

Is a saying that says that it is better to be satisfied with something smaller, but safer, than to strive for something bigger, which is also uncertain.

Kako zvuče naše izjave/izreke/fraze na engleskom! 😅

„Bolje vrabac u ruci nego golub na grani“ je izreka koja poručuje da je bolje zadovoljiti se manjim, ali sigurnijim, nego težiti za nečim većim što je ujedno i nesigurno.

Today, one of the expressions is "make a deal" that is often mentioned between business entities. 🤝

This expression means to conclude a successful business arrangement with someone, that is, to make an agreement official. 🖋

"After months of negotiations, we finally closed the deal!" 🔏

So lets close the deal and start learning English together! 😊
-----------------------------------
Danas je jedan od izraza „sklopiti posao“ koji se često spominje između privrednih subjekata. 🤝

Ovaj izraz znači zaključiti s nekim uspješan poslovni aranžman, odnosno ozvaničiti ugovor. 🖋

"Nakon višemjesečnih pregovora, konačno smo zaključili posao!" 🔏

Zato hajde da zaključimo posao i počnemo zajedno učiti engleski! 😊

How does it sound in English? 🧐

"Better a sparrow in the hand than a dove on a branch" 🐦

That is a saying that says that it is better to be satisfied with something smaller, but safer, than to strive for something bigger, which is also uncertain. It is ingrained in human nature, according to the effect of security, that man is more afraid of losing property than he strives to possess it. They say that this saying is characteristic of people on the margins of society, that is, those who are afraid to take risks to reach the pigeon. 😀

The proverb teaches the people that it is okay to decide, start, undertake, fall, get up again and do it all over again. 😄
-------------------------------------------------
Kako zvuči na Engleskom jeziku? 🧐

Finally, it's Grammar Thursday! 🤩

After the holidays and a short break, today we continue with the words:
"Who vs. Whom"

There’s a good chance you’ve been corrected by someone once or twice when using these words out loud. As a general rule, “who” is used when referring to the subject of a sentence (the person or thing performing the action), while “whom” is used when referring to the object (the person or thing that the action is being performed on). 😀

Who is in charge of returns and exchanges? 💵

Whom should I contact if a customer requests a return or exchange? 💸

We can verify that the correct words are being used in the above examples by converting the questions into the appropriate “answers.” Then, it’s just a simple matter of observing which part of the sentence “who” or “whom” is referring to. 😌
------------------------------------------------
Konačno je došao na red i Gramatički Četvrtak! 🤩

Nakon praznika i kratke pauze, danas nastavljamo sa rječima:
"Ko i Koga"

"COMMON GRAMMAR MISTAKES"

Confusion between “then” and “than” probably arises because the two look and sound similar. 🤔

“Than” is used in comparisons. Than is the word to choose in phrases like smaller than, smoother than, and further than. And it's the word that follows other, rather, less, and more.
“Then” is used to indicate something following something else in time, as in step-by-step instructions, or planning a schedule (“we’ll go there then there”). 🤓

How not to do it: ❌
She was better at it then him
It was more then enough

Correct way: ✅
She was better at it than him
It was more than enough
We’ll go to the baker first, then the coffee shop

😊😄
----------------------------------------------------------------
"NAJČEŠĆE GRAMATIČKE GREŠKE"

Zabuna između "tada" i "nego" vjerovatno nastaje jer ova dva izgledaju i zvuče slično.
🤔

“Nego” se koristi u poređenjima. Than je riječ koju treba izabrati u frazama kao što su manji nego, glatkiji nego i dalji nego. I to je riječ koja slijedi druge, radije, manje i više.
"Onda" se koristi da označi nešto što slijedi nešto drugo u vremenu, kao u uputama korak po korak, ili planiranje rasporeda ("onda ćemo ići tamo"). 🤓

Kako to ne raditi: ❌
Ona je u tome bila bolja onda njega
Bilo je više od dovoljno

Ispravno: ✅
Bila je bolja u tome od njega
Bilo je više nego dovoljno
Prvo idemo u pekaru, onda u kafić

"HOW DOES IT SOUND IN ENGLISH?"

How our statements/sayings/phrases sound in English! 😅

"The wolf changes its fur, but never its temper." 🐺

The symbolism is clear and implies a strong, unrestrained character, the need for freedom, insubordination, steadfastness, resourcefulness and superior intelligence. 😌
----------------------------------------------
"KAKO ZVUČI NA ENGLESKOM?"

Kako zvuče naše izjave/izreke/fraze na engleskom! 😅

"Vuk dlaku mijenja ali ćudi nikada." 🐺

Simbolika je jasna i podrazumeva jak, nesputan karakter, potrebu za slobodom, nepokornost, nepokolebljivost, snalažljivost i superiornu inteligenciju. 😌

Today it's Business English. 🤓

On our business menu is the term 'wrap up'. ❓

'wrap up' is a verb that refers to when we need to bring something to an end. Conclusion or final result.
That is, sum up everything, and finish, if it's about meetings or lectures. 👩‍🏫

We should note that when the word is used for someone "wrap (someone) up", it refers to when we want to warm that person up, put warm clothes on them, or to warm ourselves if we were speaking for ourselves. 😊

"Wrap up well - it's cold outside." 🥶
------------------------------------------------------------
Danas je Poslovni Engleski na redu. 🤓

Na našem poslovnom meniju je izraz 'upakovati'. ❓

'upakovati' je glagol koji se odnosi kada nešto treba da privedemo kraju. Zaključak ili konačni rezultat.
Odnosno sumirati sve, i završiti, ako je riječ o sastancima ili predavanjima. 👩‍🏫

Trebamo napomenuti kada se riječ koristi za nekoga "umotati nekoga", se odnosi kada želimo tu osobu da utoplimo, obučemo toplu odjeću njoj, ili sebe da utoplimo ako smo govorili za sebe. 😊

"Dobro se umotajte - vani je hladno." 🥶
