Proudly standing for equality! 🌈

Today, we were proud to walk alongside numerous people in Sarajevo raising their voices for inclusion, dignity, and human rights for all.

Together with international and local partner organizations, our Chargé d’Affaires Anne-Marije van de Staaij and representatives of the Embassy of the 🇳🇱 in 🇧🇦 joined the 7th Pride Parade in Sarajevo.

For the Netherlands, diversity is a strength and equal rights are not up for debate. Pride is both a celebration and a reminder that everyone deserves the freedom to be themselves, recognized equally by the law, loving who they love and live without discrimination.

Orange is part of the rainbow 🌈

Each year, Pride events light up cities around the world in a celebration of diversity, freedom, and love in all its forms. In the Netherlands, Pride is much more than a party, it is a statement of solidarity and a continuation of a decades-long commitment to equal rights for LGBTQIA+ people everywhere.

The Netherlands strongly advocates for gender and LGBTQIA+ equality. Both at home and abroad, supporting gay rights is more than just painting a rainbow crossing across the road - however significant the symbolism. That is why the Dutch government together with its embassies supports organizations advocating for LGBTQIA+ rights on an international scale.

We work with international partners, including governments, civil society and the private sector, to decriminalize homosexuality, protect diverse gender identities, and promote social acceptance. Through numerous initiatives and with support from different networks, we advocate for inclusive policies and stronger protections worldwide.

Thirty young civil servants from the 🇳🇱 Ministry of Finance visited 🇧🇦 to gain a deeper understanding of how public finance and foreign affairs intersect, and how their work contributes to international cooperation.

During the study visit, the delegation met with colleagues from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, the EU Delegation, the World Bank, NGOs, influential voices from civil society, and representatives of institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The program included a visit to Srebrenica, offering them with an opportunity to reflect on the country's history and its enduring relevance today.

Alongside a packed schedule of meetings and discussions, the delegation also took part in Giro di Sarajevo, joining more than a thousand cyclists in riding through the city and experiencing Sarajevo from a sportive and unique perspective.

The visit provided insights, exchanges, and an appreciation of the connections between domestic policymaking and international affairs.
