πŸš— Barbados Strengthens Protection for Used Vehicle Buyers

Buying a vehicle is one of the biggest investments many of us will ever make. That's why the Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI) is working with the Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs (DCCA) to introduce the proposed National Vehicle Import Conformity Assessment and Pre-Certification Programme.

The initiative aims to ensure that imported vehicles are independently inspected before they leave the exporting country, giving consumers greater confidence that the vehicles they purchase are safe, roadworthy, and accurately represented.

What are the benefits?

βœ… Greater consumer protection
βœ… Safer vehicles on Barbados' roads
βœ… Increased transparency in the used vehicle market
βœ… Support for fair and efficient trade
βœ… No additional local inspections, paperwork, or delays after vehicles arrive in Barbados

Recently, BNSI hosted a National Vehicle Import Awareness Seminar, bringing together government agencies, vehicle dealers, importers, insurers, financial institutions, and consumer representatives to discuss this important initiative.

This awareness seminar will provide stakeholders with an insight into the development of a framework under which vehicles are inspected and certified in the markets they are sourced from, in accordance with standards recognized by Barbados National Standards Institution (BNSI). The aim is to have a certified, pre-shipment inspection regime prior to shipment to Barbados. The initiative is intended to strengthen quality assurance measures for imported vehicles while supporting national objectives related to road safety, consumer protection, environmental sustainability, and regulatory efficiency.
