🚒👨🏼‍🚒👩‍🚒 Fire Cadets Tredan Archer and Cyan Harewood were among 86 young persons who completed the six-week Barbados Fire Service (BFS) Cadet Programme, now in its 26 year.

The programme's closing ceremony and passing-out parade was held on Monday evening at the Parkinson Memorial School. Minister of Home Affairs and Information, Gregory Nicholls, BFS staff, training instructors, including members of the Barbados Coast Guard, sponsors, and parents gathered to celebrate the participants' efforts.

The 16-year-old Harrison College student completed the Junior Instructor and Safety of Life at Sea courses, was part of the team awarded best at ropes and knots and received the female leadership trophy. Cyan highlighted that the programme challenged her and attributed her success to hard work and the lessons learned throughout the programme.

The award for the Best Foot Drill, Most Disciplined, Instructor’s Award and part of the team awarded best at ropes and knots went to 16-year-old Tredan Archer of the Deighton Griffith Secondary School. Tredan said it was "an honour and a privilege" to participate in the programme, which helped him improve several skills, and he advised others to join the programme when it is next offered.

Other awards presented during the evening were for Best at Theory, Best at Practical, Best at Deportment, Most Helpful, Most Improved and Course Coordinator.
