What a weekend in St. John! The St. John Parish Independence Committee brought the community together for an exciting Community Cricket Match at Gall Hill, facing off against the Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat's team!

The energy was electric as the St. John community, their friends and Parish Independence Committee members from every parish across Barbados came out to show their support! A true display of community spirit and island-wide unity!

We were also honoured to have the Hon. Charles Griffith, M.P., Minister of Sports and Community Empowerment and Parliamentary Representative for St. John, in attendance, as he interacted with those in attendance as well as with the players, and presented trophies to the well-deserving winners!

This is what community looks like.

The Community Independence Celebrations Secretariat (CICS), Ministry of Sports and Community Empowerment recently hosted Public Speaking Part II for our 2026 Parish Ambassadors and Attendants.

Media specialist Ann Marie Burke returned to facilitate this session. Under her expert guidance, our Parish Ambassadors and Attendants were taught how to sharpen their communication skills, master the art of delivery, and how to build the confidence needed to represent their communities with pride.

Effective communication is the heartbeat of community leadership, and these young leaders were more than ready to learn what it takes to make their voices heard!
