Bureau of Gender Affairs - Barbados On March 26th 1992, Cabinet approved a National Policy Statement on Women. Finally, in 2001, the National Advisory Council on Gender was established.

Later in the same year, the Domestic Violence Protection Orders as well as the Sexual Offences Act were enacted. Three years later (1995) the national Report and Plan of Action for Women was presented at the UN's Fourth Global Conference in Beijing, China. In 1999, the Shelter for Abused Women was founded to assist the numerous amounts of women that have been abused in any and all forms and to hel

p them to recover fully from their trauma. In 2000, the Bureau of Women's Affairs was redesigned to the Bureau of Gender Affairs. This change was inspired by the need for gender equity and equality in all aspects in the public sector including policy making, planning, evaluation and review.
