The Emergency Management Advisory Council (EMAC) concluded its 19th meeting on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, following two days of discussions on key areas of emergency management and disaster risk management.

The final session placed particular emphasis on integrating disaster risk management considerations into school safety and security, the mapping of health sector infrastructure and assets to support enhanced decision-making in emergency preparedness and response, as well as reflecting on the report of initiatives undertaken by the Department of Emergency Management during 2025.

On Friday, August 21, 2026, the Emergency Management Advisory Council (EMAC) held its 19th meeting at the Department of Emergency Management (DEM).

The meeting, which was chaired by Gregory Nicholls, M.P., the Minister of Home Affairs and Information, concentrated on several key priorities in the field of emergency management, such as national and regional responses, the lessons drawn from recent disaster response operations, as well as a proposed update to the legislative framework for emergency management and disaster risk management.

The discussions highlighted the importance of continued collaboration and preparedness in strengthening Barbados’ emergency management capacity.

The meeting will continue on Wednesday 26 August 2026, with a focus on school safety and disaster risk management, as well as strengthening our pre-disaster impact datasets through mapping of health sector infrastructure and assets.
