The Department of Emergency Management (DEM) was pleased to assist the Global Support and Development’s (GSD’s) team during the sustainment aspect of their Rapid Response Assessment (R2A) Exercise which took place in Barbados from 11 – 15 May, 2026.

The Exercise was a post-impact response Capability Validation Exercise focusing on GSD’s ability to maintain a 72-hr unsupported Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief footprint. It allowed the GSD’s team to establish an Operations Base to practice sustainment, and stage Areas of Operations to simulate in-country assessment support.

GSD, founded in 2015, is a humanitarian organization which supports communities across the Caribbean, Central America, and the South Pacific to build resilience through preparedness and immediate response interventions.

🌪️ Hurricane season preparation starts at home. Taking the time now to trim trees, secure shutters, and check your hurricane straps can make a major difference when strong winds arrive. Overgrown branches can become dangerous projectiles, while properly installed shutters and reinforced roofs help protect your family and property from storm damage.

Don’t wait until a warning is issued. Small actions taken today can reduce risks tomorrow.

🛠️ Trim trees.
🏠 Secure shutters.
🔩 Check hurricane straps.

Operation: Act Before Impact.
