In response to the statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar on 15 August 2026, 36 Rohingya Community-Based Organizations have issued a unified joint statement reaffirming the rights, identity, and aspirations of the Rohingya people.
The statement rejects misleading narratives that deny Rohingya identity and calls for truth, accountability, and a rights-based approach to any repatriation process. It reiterates that any return of Rohingya refugees must be safe, voluntary, dignified, sustainable, and conducted with full respect for fundamental human rights, under credible international monitoring and with meaningful Rohingya participation.
We invite governments, the United Nations, ASEAN, humanitarian actors, civil society, and the international community to read and engage with the full statement.
