One Region, One Vision: Solidarity, Action Pitching & Commitments at Pokhara University | 2nd International Climate Camp 2026

The conference day at Pokhara University culminated in a powerful finale of youth-led solutions, global expert reflections, and a shared regional commitment to climate justice.

Action Lab Group Presentations
The hard work of our six working groups came to fruition as mentors from Groups A through F presented strategic campaign roadmaps tackling Asia’s core climate crises:
Climate Politics & Just Energy Transition, Nature-Based Solutions & Biodiversity, Renewable Energy Solutions, Sustainable Water Management & Basin Security, Action Against Industrial Pollution and Youth Leadership & Grassroots Advocacy
Adding global academic rigor to the pitches, Dr. Nandan Mukherjee (Senior Lecturer and Director of the Binks Institute for Sustainability, University of Dundee, Scotland) reflected on the frameworks, encouraging delegates to refine their projects for international climate funding and policy advocacy.

Commitments & Closing
Summarizing the key insights and pledges of the conference, Mr. Ahsan Rony (Executive Director & Founder, Mission Green Bangladesh) outlined our collective action commitments for the year ahead. The academic sessions officially concluded with formal closing remarks and a Vote of Thanks from Dr. Rajesh Kumar Thagurathi (Head of Pokhara University).

Local Action, Global Reach: Plenary Session 2 on Global Partnerships at International Climate Camp 2026 at Pokhara University

How do we turn global climate commitments into real, measurable impact on the ground? That was the core focus of Plenary Session 2: Global Partnerships for Local Impact, held at Pokhara University.
Moderated by Prof. Dr. Kamruzzaman Majumder (Dean, Faculty of Science, Stamford University Bangladesh), this dynamic panel explored how international networks, academic institutions, and frontline organizations can bridge resources directly to grassroots communities.

Key Takeaways from Our Panelists:
Protecting Coastal & Riverine Ecosystems: Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal (Founder & Executive Director, LEDARS) emphasized how international alliances strengthen the defense of vulnerable coastal and river-dependent communities in South Asia against extreme weather and industrial pollution.
Academic Leadership & Research Networks: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rishikesh Pandey and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Arjun Thapa (Pokhara University), alongside Ms. Rubaya Nasrin Shejuti (South Asia University, Bangladesh), highlighted the critical role of cross-border academic research in driving evidence-based climate policies across the Himalayas and neighboring regions.
Empowering Alumni & Youth Networks: Mr. Forhad Hossain (Alumni Relations Manager, Student Life, BRAC University) shared how engaging university alumni and student networks creates sustainable, long-term support systems for youth-led climate initiatives.

Global partnerships are only as strong as the local change they create.

Turning Ideas into Action: The Action Lab Strategy Sessions! Group Work at International Climate Camp 2026

While speeches inspire, true leadership is built through hands-on collaboration! The core engine of the 2nd International Climate Camp came alive during the Action Lab: Designing Climate Campaigns at Pokhara University.

From day one of the camp, every participant was assigned to a specialized thematic working group targeting the most pressing environmental challenges Asia faces today. Supported by a dedicated leadership structure-1–2 expert Advisers, 2 Mentors, and 1 Coordinator per team-delegates engaged in deep, solution-oriented brainstorming to co-design actionable, cross-border campaigns.

The 6 Thematic Action Labs:
Group A: Climate Politics | Unpacking policy frameworks, climate justice, and holding governance structures accountable.
Group B: Nature-Based Solutions | Harnessing ecosystem restoration, biodiversity, and community stewardship to build resilience.
Group C: Renewable Energy Solutions | Strategizing actionable pathways for a just and rapid energy transition across South Asia.
Group D: Sustainable Water Management | Safeguarding transboundary river basins, glaciers, and local water security.
Group E: Action Against Pollution | Tackling air, plastic, and industrial waste threatening Asian ecosystems.
Group F: Youth Leadership & Advocacy | Building grassroots networks and mobilizing young changemakers for maximum regional impact.

Guided by top regional minds-including experts from CANSA, PRIED, Waterkeepers, C3ER, and UN youth leadership-these 150+ delegates from diverse Asian countries didn't just discuss problems; they drafted tangible roadmaps to take back to their home communities.

The future of South Asian climate action isn't just being debated-it was actively being built right there in Pokhara!

What a powerful and eye-opening module for our Youth4Nature Fellowship 2026! Our fellows gathered for an incredibly dynamic session dedicated to analyzing Bangladesh's pressing air quality challenges and charting actionable pathways toward cleaner air.
The energy was electric, and the fellows loved every moment of this interactive experience!

Inspiring Guidance from Our Esteemed Mentor:
Our distinguished mentor, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumdar (Dean, Faculty of Science, Stamford University Bangladesh & Chairman, CAPS), delivered a masterclass on the scientific, health, and policy dimensions of urban air pollution.
Key Takeaways from the Interactive Session:
• Root Causes & Data-Driven Insights: Deep-dived into atmospheric data, exploring the primary drivers of toxic AQI levels—from brick kilns and construction emissions to transboundary pollutants.
• Public Health Impact: Examined the severe health risks posed by prolonged exposure to $PM_{2.5}$ and $PM_{10}$, particularly for vulnerable urban populations and outdoor workers.
• Actionable Guidelines: Received strategic, practical frameworks on how youth leaders can utilize low-cost monitoring, investigative media reporting, and community advocacy to hold polluters accountable.

Fellows in Action:
This wasn't just a lecture-it was a brainstorming hub! Inspired by the guidelines, our fellows actively exchanged ideas, debated urban policy interventions, and began drafting actionable campaign concepts to fight air pollution in their respective districts. Equipped with fresh knowledge and expert guidance, our future environment guardians are ready to turn awareness into impactful advocacy!
A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Dr. Ahmad Kamruzzaman Majumdar for taking the time to mentor and inspire our cohort!
