ASHIC

ASHIC Foundation for Childhood Cancer and Palliatiive care in Bangladesh.

ASHIC, A Foundation for Childhood Cancer, is a beacon of hope that arose from tremendous tragedy for the Choudhury family. The organization was founded in 1994 after the Choudhurys lost their son, Ashiq, to a rare form of cancer. Ashiq was a vibrant, beautiful child whose promise of a rich life came to a premature end at the tender age of three. On May 20th, 1993, Ashiq slipped into eternal peace

after a year-long fight against the death grip of cancer, leaving his loved ones lost in their own bleak worlds. Ashiq's sudden diagnosis and prolonged treatment with numerous courses of chemotherapy and surgery at the Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children in London brought a calamity into his family's life. During her son's treatment, Salma Choudhury came across many other families in similar situations. She also experienced the benevolence of individuals and charity organizations who offered comfort to these children and their families during their darkest days. After the loss of Ashiq, the Choudhury family was inspired to reach out to the children living with cancer in Bangladesh. They transformed their thoughts into reality through founding ASHIC (A Shelter for Helpless Ill Children), a charity organization dedicated to improving the quality of lives for this special group of children.

September is . We are starting a series about known (and lesser) known facts about childhood cancer in Bangladesh, ASHIC’s myriad projects, and tidbits from the global scene.

For the last three decades, ASHIC Foundation has been a trusted name in childhood cancer care in Bangladesh. Over its tenure, ASHIC has stood next to thousands of cancer warriors as they navigated their cancer journey. Started from the extreme personal tragedy of Afzal & Salma Choudhury losing their youngest son to cancer when he was only three, ASHIC has gone far beyond a small family effort. With support from many donors, ASHIC has gone from strength to strength, introducing many innovative programs for childhood cancer in Bangladesh.

It’s a matter of great pleasure that under the measure announced in the FY2026-27 budget, taxpayers will be able to claim tax relief on donations made to ASHIC from Jul 1, 2026, to Jun 30, 2030. The tax exemption is valid for individual donors, and can also be applied towards countries with dual tax treaties. ASHIC is grateful to the Government for recognizing our work as being important for the community, and creating this incentive to increase donor participation in the country.
We are excited to grow with our local communities and continue to provide exemplary and subsidized services to the neediest children going through cancer treatment. Please get in touch with us to learn how you can help and apply the deduction to your taxes.

We fondly remember our late Founder Chairperson Mrs. Salma Choudhury on her birthday today.

A pioneer in childhood cancer in Bangladesh, Mrs. Choudhury transformed the grief of losing her youngest son to cancer through her tireless work for ASHIC Foundation. Over 30 years of dedicated effort, she touched the lives of thousands of cancer warriors while building a mission driven team focused on excellence in service. In her absence, her daughter Maheen has stepped in as CEO and her son Asif serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Under their guidance, the ASHIC team continues to expand its footprint in pediatric oncology.

We pray that Mrs. Choudhury looks upon this work with pride and the same compassion she had in her lifetime. The world was a better place with her in it.
Please pray for her soul in the afterlife.

Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji'un.

With deep sorrow, we share the passing of our beloved palliative care patient, Sadia, who left us last night.
We humbly request everyone to pray for her. May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings, shower His mercy upon her, grant her peace, and bless her with Jannatul Ferdous. We also extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones during this difficult time.
The video was taken a few days ago. Sadia's journey reminds us of the importance of compassionate care, dignity, comfort, and emotional support during the final stages of life.
ASHIC Foundation requests families of cancer children living with life-limiting illnesses to reach out to ASHIC Palliative Care Unit (PCU) without delay. Our dedicated team is here to provide pain management, nursing care, psychosocial support, counseling, and end-of-life comfort, ensuring that no patient faces their final journey alone.
Please keep Sadia in your prayers.

At ASHIC Foundation, every smile matters and every wish carries a special meaning.

Through ASHIC Palliative Care Unit,s services, we always try to bring comfort, joy, and emotional strength to children and patients facing difficult journeys. Recently, we had the heartfelt opportunity to fulfil a special wish of one of our beloved palliative patient Alfaz, creating a beautiful moment filled with happiness, love, and hope. After receiving the toys "Remote Control Car", he always plays with this.

Seeing the patient’s joyful smile reminded us that compassionate care is not only about treatment, it is also about listening, understanding, and making precious memories together.

We sincerely thank everyone who continuously supports our mission and stands beside our children and families with kindness and humanity.
