What is shaping Bangladesh’s economic outlook—and what does it mean for businesses on the ground?

The German Embassy Dhaka hosted its second Economic Reception of the year, bringing together German and Bangladeshi companies. The evening focused on an open exchange regarding the country’s economic trajectory and the essential reform priorities needed for sustainable growth.

We were privileged to welcome Mr. Maxym Kryshko, IMF Resident Representative to Bangladesh, who provided a comprehensive analysis of:

📈 Medium-term growth outlook
💸 Inflation and monetary policy
🏦 Fiscal stability and foreign exchange
🛠️ Critical financial and structural reforms

The keynote was followed by an engaging Q&A session, allowing companies to address the challenges and opportunities of operating in Bangladesh. The evening wrapped up with vibrant conversations and new connections over a networking reception hosted by Ambassador Dr. Rüdiger Lotz.

Ambassador Dr. Rüdiger Lotz and Deputy Head of Mission Mr. Daniel Blum visited Square Fashions Limited to get a closer look at Bangladesh’s textile and garment operations.

From German machinery and technology to partnerships with major German brands including BOSS, PUMA and OLYMP, the visit highlighted the strong business links between Bangladesh’s textile sector and Germany. 📈

It also underscored how German technology, Bangladesh’s apparel industry and global value chains are intertwined — and the potential for further cooperation in technology, sustainability and manufacturing.

🤝𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐓𝐢𝐞𝐬 & 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞! 🇩🇪🇧🇩

A multi-party delegation from the German Bundestag’s German-South Asian Parliamentary Group—led by Group Chair Nicklas Kappe (CDU/CSU) alongside Johann Saathoff (SPD), Ulle Schauws (Alliance 90/The Greens), and Gerold Otten (AfD)—completed a vital visit to Bangladesh from 17 to 19 September!

On their first day in Dhaka, the delegation sat down with Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad Bir Bikram for high-level talks covering Bangladesh’s evolving political and economic landscape, trade, investment, and climate action.

The delegation also reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to international efforts for a sustainable, long-term resolution to the Rohingya crisis. Discussions also touched on potential areas of future German-Bangladeshi cooperation related to natural gas extraction, in light of Bangladesh’s current power challenges.💡⚡

#৪. দূতাবাসে নিরাপত্তামূলক পদক্ষেপগুলোকে আমরা খুব গুরুত্বের সাথে দেখি! ⚠️🛡️

1️⃣ প্রথমে আপনাকে আপনার পাসপোর্ট এবং অ্যাপয়েন্টমেন্ট নিশ্চিতকারী ই-মেইলের প্রিন্ট কপি আমাদের নিরাপত্তাকর্মীদের দেখাতে হবে।

2️⃣ এরপর, ভেতরে নিয়ে যাওয়ার অনুমতি নেই, এমন জিনিসপত্র (যেমন—ফোন, ল্যাপটপ, প্রসাধনী ইত্যাদি) লকারে রাখার জন্য জমা দিন এবং লকারের চাবি ও ভিজিটর কার্ড সংগ্রহ করুন।

3️⃣ নিরাপত্তার স্বার্থে, আপনার সঙ্গে থাকা অন্যান্য সব জিনিস কনভেয়র বেল্টে স্ক্যান করা হবে এবং আপনাকে মেটাল ডিটেক্টরের মধ্য দিয়ে যেতে হবে।

Ambassador Dr Rüdiger Lotz, recently visited BRAC University, meeting with Vice-Chancellor Professor Syed Ferhat Anwar and other senior faculties, learning about BRACU’s journey and exploring its vibrant campus. He particularly appreciated the university’s sustainable architecture and green ecosystem. 🌱

A highlight was meeting BRACU’s robotics team, who are working on an exciting Mars Rover project and an innovative initiative with the Bangladesh Navy. 🤖🛳️

The visit opened the door to exciting possibilities for future collaboration between BRAC University and German Institutions in technology, innovation, language, culture and beyond.

At the recent “Just Energy Transition (JET): Opportunities and Challenges in Developing a Skilled Workforce for the Power Sector” event in Dhaka, stakeholders from government, industry, academia and development partners came together to explore how Bangladesh can build the skilled workforce needed for its growing renewable energy ambitions.

The partnership between Bangladesh and Germany is helping strengthen local institutions, develop future-ready expertise, and prepare professionals for the energy systems of tomorrow. From solar and wind to hybrid energy systems, investing in people is investing in a sustainable future. 👷👩‍🏭

দূতাবাসে প্রবেশের জন্য দুটি গেট রয়েছে—একটি দূতাবাস এর কর্মীদের জন্য এবং অন্যটি ভিসা আবেদনকারীদের জন্য।

↪️আপনি যদি গুলশান ২ চক্কর থেকে দূতাবাসের দিকে আসেন, তবে আপনার জন্য সঠিক দরজা হবে দ্বিতীয়টি!

Bangladesh’s low-carbon future cannot be designed behind closed doors – it should be 𝐩𝐞𝐨𝐩𝐥𝐞-𝐥𝐞𝐝, 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞-𝐛𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐝 𝐛𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐰𝐡𝐨 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭.

💬 “Young people will live with the consequences of today’s decisions and will soon be in positions to shape the future.”

🇩🇪 German Ambassador to Bangladesh, Dr Rüdiger Lotz, stated the importance of a whole-of-society approach at the University Dialogue on People-led LT-LEDS (Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategy): Bangladesh’s Low Carbon Future at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) in Sylhet.

Around 220 students and young people came together to explore how technology, innovation, data, and youth-led solutions can help build a low-carbon and climate-resilient Bangladesh.

The dialogue, organised by Youth for NDCs with support from the German Embassy Dhaka highlighted the importance of bringing young people, universities, communities, businesses and policymakers into the conversation on Bangladesh’s long-term development pathway. 🌍✨
