Founded in 1978 by Ziaur Rahman, the Seventh President of Bangladesh, BNP has ruled Bangladesh for a total of 14 years and three terms since it was established (1978-1982, 1991-1996, 2001–2006). ce 1981 by Khaleda Zia, Rahman's widow, and is the second-largest party in the Jatiyo Sangshad from 2008 election in the Parliament of Bangladesh. Since 2008 it has been the main opposition party to the ruling Awami League and Grand Alliance. Its student wing, was founded in 1979, and has been both large and active.
