BIMSTEC Secretariat of the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation.

The Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) is an intergovernmental regional organization comprising seven Member States lying in the littoral and adjacent areas of the Bay of Bengal - Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The First Meeting of the Governing Board of the BIMSTEC Technology Transfer Facility (TTF) was held virtually on 3 August 2026 in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

The Meeting brought together representatives from all seven BIMSTEC member States to discuss technology transfer, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, capacity building, research collaboration and partnerships with international organisations, alongside operationalisation of the TTF. The Governing Board welcomed progress on the Host Country Agreement, endorsed steps towards operationalising the Facility and reaffirmed its commitment to fostering innovation-led, technology-driven and sustainable development in the BIMSTEC member States.

BIMSTEC Secretary General, H.E. Indra Mani Pandey, addressed a High-Level Policy Dialogue organised by Institute of Foreign Affairs of Nepal on 29 July 2026.

Secretary General highlighted in his presentation evolution of BIMSTEC, its vision and agenda, key achievements and its activities and initiatives aimed at advancing regional cooperation and integration among the member States.

The dialogue brought together diplomats from BIMSTEC Member States, government officials, academics, policy experts, representatives of think tanks, researchers, and other distinguished participants, fostering meaningful discussion on the future of regional collaboration under BIMSTEC.

BIMSTEC Secretary General, H.E. Indra Mani Pandey will undertake an official visit to Nepal from 28-29 July 2026.

Nepal is the lead member State for cooperation in People-to-People Relations, including culture and tourism, as well as poverty alleviation.

The BIMSTEC Secretariat successfully conducted a Capacity Building Workshop on Project, Financial, Procurement, and Environmental & Social Management for the BIMSTEC Project Management Unit (PMU), held on 22–23 July 2026 in Dhaka, Bangladesh.

Organized in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Bank, the two-day workshop aimed to enhance technical and operational capacities of BIMSTEC Secretariat and PMU officials for effective implementation of World Bank-financed projects in accordance with applicable standards and procedures.

The workshop brought together officials from the BIMSTEC Secretariat, BIMSTEC PMU and FAO, with technical expertise provided by the specialists from the World Bank.

The PMU will support the BIMSTEC Secretariat in implementing the Plans of Action on Public Health and Traditional Medicine in close coordination with BIMSTEC Member States and development partners, while contributing to the BIMSTEC’s broader cooperation across various sectors.
