The IT industry is the fastest growing global industry and software engineers are some of the most sought after professionals in the world today. We live in a global economy where we need to equip our students with the right technology so that they can propel themselves into exciting and prosperous careers. In the vision of “Digital Age”,
information based education is the infinite source of all enthusiasm and all the motive force of world. No difficulties or obstacles can stand on the way of development and progress when it is educated in the true spirit and sense on the term of technology. There is wide spread agreement that the single most important input to the software production process is skilled labor of programming but equally that the relative lack of such skilled labor is the most serious constraint to software industry development. Information and Communication Technology is being used to leverage economic growth to achieve Vision 2021: Digital Bangladesh. Bangladesh Government has mainstreamed ICT as a pro-poor tool so that citizens can be empowered to eradicate poverty, establishing good governance by delivering better citizens services through promoting quality education, healthcare and law enforcement for all etc. Amidst numerous anti-development cultures thriving in our country we have some exemplary pro-development initiatives flourishing in the country. This includes programming contests among school/college students and among universities. The aim of the programming contest is to give a platform for the students and the young generation. The programming contest will definitely encourage young generation and inspire the them to develop computer skill.. It is very vital requirement for economical growth of Bangladesh. Because, at present IT sector has exceeded globally one trillion dollars. Our neighbor country, India’s IT export is over 50 billon dollar per year. In this case our contribution for global IT is very low. So this is a great opportunity of our young generation. In the age of globalization and internet if they are properly skilled, they can be a part of global IT community and technology community. As well as they will enrich the country. Bangladesh University has come forward to create an opportunity for students to sharpen their programming skill. Bangladesh University successfully organized Quazi Azher Ali National Programming Contest in the year 2010 & 2011. This year, the Bangladesh University (BU) is extending the contest at SAARC level and in the near future it will be in the International level so that the students will get opportunities to sharpen and demonstrate their intelligence in problem-solving and programming skills. Bangladesh University is going to organize a programming contest “Quazi Azher Ali SAARC Programming Contest (QAASPC) 2013” at own campus on January 05, 2013. The contest shall provide competent students to represent the Universities in the international programming competitions. It will be delightful contest of amazing problem solving works on various fields of computer science. The contest will help to create awareness and emphasizes on programming which will lead to the prosperity of global IT economy.
