It’s a proud moment for Department of Biomedical Engineering, BUET as two student teams from Level-3, Term-2 made remarkable achievements at the 16th Annual Rice360 Global Health Technologies Design Competition, held on April 24, 2026, in Houston, Texas.
Team AnkleGlide, with members Md. Al Maruf Ratul, Kazi Md. Borhanul Islam, Montaha Anowar, and Md. Aamer Intiser Shadman, secured 3rd place with an impactful low-cost device designed to help prevent blood clots and muscle weakness in bedridden patients. AnkleGlide is a low-cost, continuous ankle flexion device designed to prevent Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and muscle atrophy in long-term bedridden ICU patients. The device provides automated dorsiflexion and plantarflexion movements, making it suitable for resource-limited healthcare settings like Bangladesh. The team was supervised by Shams Nafisa Ali and Tasnia Binte Mamun.
At the same time, Team BioDrip, consisting of Rahin Ibne Hasan, Md. Abirul Alam, and Nanziba Islam, earned the People’s Choice Award for their smart IV therapy system that supports healthcare workers and improves patient safety. Designed to automate and optimize intravenous fluid management in line with national guidelines, the system incorporates real-time monitoring to reduce clinical workload and minimize risks of dosing errors and contamination. The team was supervised by Md. Tazuddin Ahmed.
These achievements highlight how thoughtful, low-cost innovations can address real healthcare challenges, especially in resource-limited settings like Bangladesh.
A big congratulations to both teams for representing BUET and Bangladesh on a global stage. This is just the beginning of many more achievements to come.
