The Fourth Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB) and the Government of the Peopleโ€™s Republic of Bangladesh (GoB) was held today in Dhaka. The Meeting was co-chaired by the Foreign Secretary Pema Lektup Dorji, RGoB and Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam, GoB.

The meeting was held in a warm, cordial and constructive atmosphere and provided an opportunity to review the full range of bilateral relations. The two sides also exchanged views on cooperation at regional and multilateral level on matters of mutual interest.

Both sides reaffirmed their longstanding bonds of friendship, trust and mutual respect and expressed satisfaction at the steady progress of bilateral cooperation over the years across a wide range of areas, including political, trade and investment, connectivity, education, health, culture, tourism, agriculture and people-to-people exchanges.

The two sides agreed to further strengthen high-level political engagements and regular consultations between the two governments. They emphasized the importance of translating the existing goodwill and political understanding into tangible outcomes for the peoples of both countries.

Expanded cooperation in culture, tourism, agriculture, human resource development, academic cooperation, institutional linkages, youth exchanges, and sports was also reiterated.

Both sides underscored the importance of enhancing bilateral trade and strengthening private sector cooperation, expanding the product coverage under the Bangladeshโ€“Bhutan Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) and exploring the possibility of a Free Trade Agreement (FTA).

Bangladesh expressed support and interest in the Gelephu Mindfulness City (GMC) initiative and welcomed its potential to promote sustainable development, regional connectivity and shared prosperity and expressed interest in exploring opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. Bangladesh reiterated to expedite the operationalisation of the Bhutanese Special Economic Zone in Kurigram.

Both sides exchanged views on strengthening regional cooperation under the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) and the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) to promote greater regional integration.

Both sides expressed satisfaction with the outcome of the Fourth FOC and reaffirmed their commitment to further deepening the close and mutually beneficial Bangladeshโ€“Bhutan partnership.

The next FOC will take place in Thimphu at a mutually convenient date and time.

On 23 July 2026, Her Excellency Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee presented her Letter of Credence to His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, Honโ€™ble President of the Republic of Maldives, accrediting her as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Bhutan to Maldives with residence in Dhaka. The presentation ceremony was held at the Presidentโ€™s Office in Male.

During the ceremony, Dasho Karma conveyed warm greetings of His Majesty The King, the Royal Government and the people of Bhutan to the President and the people of Maldives. Dasho reaffirmed the commitment of the Royal Government to further deepen the long-standing ties between Bhutan and Maldives.

On the sidelines, Dasho Karma called on Maldivian senior officials to discuss matters of mutual interest and explore avenues for further cooperation.

Diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Bhutan were established on 20 July 1984. Dasho Karma is the 13th Ambassador of Bhutan to Maldives.

Today, Her Excellency Ambassador Maleka Parveen, ndc received her Bhutanese counterpart in Dhaka Her Excellency Ambassador Dasho Karma Hamu Dorjee at the Embassy. The courtesy meeting provided an excellent opportunity to comprehensively review overarching bilateral relations between the two friendly nations. Their discussion focused on several key areas of mutual interest which included, inter alia, scheduling the next round of FOC, expediting the finalisation of pending bilateral instruments, facilitating upcoming high-level visits as well as exploring ways of increasing people to people ties, following up on the frameworks for bilateral trade and hydropower export, advancing progress on the Special Economic Zone in Kurigram, etc.Both Ambassadors reaffirmed their commitment to fostering closer diplomatic, economic, and regional partnerships for the shared prosperity of both nations.

Their Majesties the King and Queen of Bhutan have learnt with great sadness of the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati of Thailand.

Her Royal Highness devoted her life to the service of her country and people. Through her work in advancing justice, supporting the welfare of women and children and her distinguished service in the Royal Thai Armed Forces, she exemplified a deep sense of duty and an unwavering commitment to the well-being of others. Her dedication to public service earned her widespread respect and admiration.

At this time of great sorrow, we extend our deepest condolences to His Majesty King Vajiralongkorn, the Royal Family of Thailand and the people of the Kingdom of Thailand. We join them in mourning the loss of a beloved Princess whose life was devoted to the service of her nation and the well-being of its people.

Our thoughts and prayers are especially with those who knew and loved Her Royal Highness most dearly and who now mourn her loss.
