🌱𝐆𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐥𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐡’𝐬 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐚 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐅𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞🌱

Sweden 🇸🇪 is supporting Bangladesh’s green transition and sustainable development by helping the ready-made garment sector become greener, more inclusive, and more resilient.

Last week, Hanna Norell, Chargé d’Affaires and Head of Development Cooperation at the Embassy of Sweden, and Diepak Elmer, Chargé d’Affaires at the Embassy of Switzerland, visited Chattogram to observe the work of the PROGRESS project. Jointly supported by the Embassies of Sweden and Switzerland and implemented by Swisscontact Bangladesh, PROGRESS is strengthening workers’ skills, promoting women’s leadership, improving productivity and resource efficiency, and helping factories develop the systems, knowledge, and tools needed to pursue science-based decarbonization.

During the two-day visit, the delegates met representatives from factories, brands including Swedish company Lindex, service providers, financial institutions, academia, certifiers, and sustainability experts. The discussions focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) challenges, compliance improvements, women’s empowerment and leadership, access to finance, private investment, and emerging business opportunities linked to the green transition.

The visit highlighted how Sweden and Switzerland are supporting collaboration between development partners and the private sector to advance an inclusive, competitive, and sustainable RMG sector in Bangladesh.

From the classrooms of Dhaka to the playing fields of Gothenburg, the young athletes of St. Gregory's High School & College have made Bangladesh proud at the Partille World Cup 2026.

Sweden is delighted to host young talents from across the globe and witness the friendships, teamwork, and cultural connections that emerge through sport. Congratulations to all the players, coaches, and families who made this incredible journey possible.

The Nordic Green & Health Team, a joint workgroup of colleagues from the Embassies of Denmark, Norway and Sweden in Dhaka, recently organized an internal competition titled Healthy Lifestyle Challenge to celebrate healthy, sustainable lifestyles and inspire positive change in the workplace.

From stretching and movement breaks to Zumba dance sessions, indoor games, healthy eating, reducing single-use plastics and adding more greenery, every small action helps create a healthier workplace.

🇸🇪💧 𝐓𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐨𝐧, 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐬 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐬!

This week, our Development Cooperation team travelled to Chattogram - through heavy monsoon rain ☔ - to see the impact of the Sweden-supported WASH for Urban Poor (WASH4UP) programme, implemented by WaterAid Bangladesh, after three years of work.

What we found was truly inspiring:

🚰 In a low-income community, women are leading the way — managing water points, toilets and bathing facilities, while overseeing a community fund that covers maintenance and repairs. When something breaks, the community has the knowledge and resources to fix it.

🏫 At a Chattogram City Corporation school, teachers shared that girls no longer miss school during menstruation thanks to a safe, girl-friendly WASH block. Encouraged by the results, the City Corporation plans to replicate the model in more schools.

👮 At the Probortok Mor police box, traffic police officers — women and men alike — now have access to safe drinking water, sanitation facilities and a place to rest while on duty. The Police Department has adopted the model and is expanding it to other locations using its own resources.

🚻 Public toilets across the city are clean, accessible and financially sustainable, covering their operating costs through user fees.

The most powerful takeaway? Communities and local institutions are now taking ownership of these services and scaling them with their own resources. This is what sustainable development looks like. 💪
