The National Democratic Front has strongly condemned and protested Bangladesh’s inclusion in the Saudi‑led “Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance” and demanded immediate withdrawal of the country’s name from the coalition.
A new alliance named the “Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance”, led by Saudi Arabia, has made its debut. According to the alliance’s announcement, its objectives are to ensure the security of international shipping lanes in the Red Sea, the Bab‑el‑Mandeb Strait, and the Gulf of Aden; to protect commercial vessels and energy supplies; and to take coordinated defensive measures against threats such as Houthi attacks. The alliance will establish its headquarters in Riyadh and will conduct joint patrols and exchange intelligence information.
The National Democratic Front has strongly condemned and protested Bangladesh’s joining this alliance. Its Central President, Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Jahangir Hossain, and General Secretary, Chowdhury Ashikul Alam, have called for the immediate withdrawal of Bangladesh’s name from the alliance.
The leaders expressed their concern, stating that imperialists are actively working to expand the war in the Middle East to achieve their goals. US imperialism is attacking Iran to maintain its hegemony in the Gulf region, while rival imperialist powers – China and Russia – are desperate to bog down the United States in an ongoing war with Iran. As a result, inter‑imperialist contradictions have become acute. In order to frustrate the United States in the Iran war, strategies are being pursued to attack US installations in the Gulf region and to cut off fuel and commodity supplies through the Red Sea, the Persian Gulf, the Gulf of Aden, and the Bab‑el‑Mandeb and Hormuz straits, thereby increasing pressure on the United States. Inter‑imperialist rivalry, conflict, and war are being expanded, and each side is taking various steps to strengthen itself. The danger of a world war is growing as the conflict widens.
Bangladesh has been inducted into the Saudi‑led “Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance” to drag the country into this war. The ruling BNP government, which acts as a stooge of US imperialism, is continuously taking one anti‑national and anti‑public‑interest step after another in the interests of imperialists. The leaders called upon all anti‑imperialist forces, patriotic individuals, and the general public to build a united movement and resist these moves.
