The confluence of the Ganga-Brahmaputra-Meghna delta has created the Sunderbans. The mangrove forest hosts several wild animals who often come to conflict with humans. Defying the odds of danger, honey gatherers enter the forests and are often prey to the Royal Bengal Tiger. The West Bengal Forest Department (Sunderban Biosphere Reserve) has therefore taken an initiative to stand by the honey gatherers by organizing a group of 70 honey gathering families. The members have been trained at the Maipith Agricultural Science Institute and as a result, they have been producing natural mangrove honey under the brand name "Bonphool" which contains no chemical and preservatives.
Women run self-help group Sondhi has been facilitating the marketing of Bonphool and ensuring that it reaches to every part of India. A certain percentage of the profit earned by Sondhi has been earmarked and utilised for capacity building activities of women and education of the children enrolled in local schools of Sunderban. Shoutout to the awesome people at who performed, raised funds and donated ₹29,000/- for tarpaulin sheets to . They had approached us asking how they could help, and given how tarpaulins were beyond our means for our relief drive at , we asked for their help. So happy to see this!

A volunteer group is organizing a community kitchen at Vivekananda Sisutirtha, the school for which we raised fund for it's reconstruction, on 15th August. They are also planning to provide food kits to 270 students of the school of which they have arranged 150 kits and have sought our support for the rest 120 kits. Each kit includes

1 packet soymilk (Rs 35)
1 cake (Rs 5)
1 Suji packet (Rs 15)

Your donation of only Rs. 100 can sponsor two such kits. The school is getting rebuilt and we are in constant touch with them. The amount is not much. Please donate. Also please in your groups.

Through weaving, they have manufactured face masks which have been distributed to panchayats and health centres. They want to continue this work. However, they are short of funds for the time being. While we are on our last targeted fundraiser for of a in Patharpratima CD Block, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal that was damaged by , here is the report on what difference we have made through our first targeted raiser for .
Special shoutout to onestep.manysmiles renderthestresscurve rangeenkhidki for joining hands with us and keeping the support on even now. The money we had left from that was dissolved with our main fund and has been used to fund , and in the subsequent interventions.
At present, we are in conversation with muktiweb to assist us with 50 tarpaulin sheets for the affected houses in Pakhiralay.
We will keep you posted!

In the meantime, our school fundraiser to ensure is on till July 7, 2020. We are regularly updating this space with information. Kindly contribute and spread the word.

Mitra has chosen to sell her art for ₹50/- and more on artwhip to contribute to our project where we are collecting funds to rebuild a school in Patharpratima CD Block, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal. The primary school was inundated by and in its absence, the students cannot go elsewhere for classes. Please help us restore it. Our fundraiser is on till July 7, 2020.
