Introduction: Bogura (বগুড়া) is a northern district of Bangladesh, in the Rajshahi Division. It is called the gateway to North Bengal. Bogura is an industrial city where many small and mid-sized industries are sited. Bogura district was a part of the ancient Pundravardhana territory and the ruins of Mahasthangarh, the ancient capital of Pundravardhana, are located north of Bogura.
Area: 2898.68 square kilometers (1119.19 square miles)
Profile: Bogura district was established in 1821 consisting of 9 thanas, of which four from Rajshahi district (Adamdighi, Bogura, Sherpur, Nawkhila), 3 from Dinajpur district (Lalbazar, Badalgachhi, Khetlal), and two from Rangpur district (Gobindaganj, Dewanganj). In 1983 Bogura district was divided into two districts (Bogura and Joypurhat). Bogura district consists of 5 municipalities, 48 wards, 166 mahallas, 11 upazilas, 109 union parishads, 1782 mouzas and 2706 villages.
