Kailashtila Gas Field

Kailashtila Gas Field SGFL was originally owned by Burmah Oil Company. The company was abandoned by BOC after liberation of Bangladesh and was taken over by the government.

At present the company has under its umbrella, 5 gas fields namely Haripur (Sylhet), Kailashtila, Rashidpur, Beanibazar and Chatak with 18 producing wells. It is the second largest gas producer in the country. Kailashtilla Field was discovered by Pakistan Shell Oil Company in 1961. A gas well (Kailashtilla-1) was completed in June, 1983 for production of 30 MMCFD. Later, 3 more wells, well # 2 & 3

(1988) and 4 (1996), were drilled in this field. Gas of Kailashtilla has a very high condensate ratio in comparison to Haripur Gas Field. well #5 added to the field with a production capacity of 15 MMscf per day with a condensate ratio of 40+ BBL/MMCF. Another well (well #6) starts producing from 8th August, 2007. Production of well #5 has been ceased on 22 October 2009 due to excessive water production and reduction of well head pressure. The remedial work of KTL-5 has been completed to regain production. Recently 3D seismic survey has been completed in the field. A 30 MMSCFD capacity solid desiccant (silicagel) plant started operation since 1983 at location-1. Presently gas production from well no.1 and 5 is being processed through the silicagel plant.
