The Central Library of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology, which started its journey in 1990 with only 04 rooms in the Academic Building ‘A’ has now been housed in its own 4-storied Central Library Building. The library provides 12 hour non-stop services from 8:00 a.m. Starting with a very meagre collection, the library has now been enriched with more than 54 thousand books, 6 thousan
d hard copy journals/ periodicals and 23 Dailies for its users. It also serves with more than 4 thousand electronic journals/ resources, which are being subscribed through Bangladesh-INASP-PERI network. As the campus has a LAN, these e-journals/ resources can be accessed from all the PCs of each and every department of the University. The affairs of the library, like library management, procurement and processing of library resources, books stacks management, etc. are performed and various library services are provided by a team of 30 staff members (Librarian, 3 Deputy Librarians, 8 officers and 19 other employees). The library team extends reading room services, circulation services, reference services, reproduction services etc. Steps have already been taken to computerize the library and hopefully the work of computerization will be started soon. In terms of technical processing, the library is a modern one. It follows DDC-22 for classification and AACR-II for cataloguing of library materials. The Library arranges regular Library Orientation programmes for the newly admitted students of each and every department to make them acquainted with the resources, services, and techniques for searching catalogues of the library so that they can get maximum benefit from the library.
