As Jamaica's Ambassador to the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO), it was a pleasure for Ambassador Mills to have met recently with Eric Falt, Regional Director, UNESCO Office, Kingston, to learn more about UNESCO/Government of Jamaica programmes and projects (top photo).

Additionally, very productive discussions were also had with Wayne Robertson, JP, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water, Environment and Climate Change, on Jamaica's priorities to advance bilatetal cooperation with other partners.

πŸ‡ͺπŸ‡Ί On Friday, 12 June, the Embassy in collaboration with the Permanent Mission of Ireland to the European Union convened a technical level meeting of members of the CARIFORUM Embassies in Brussels and members of COLAC (Working Party on Latin America and the Caribbean within the European Council).

This meeting featured rich discussions with both sides exchanging views on areas of mutual interest. The Embassy values the opportunity to engage with our European partners.

The 11th Biennial Diaspora Conference closed with another day of riveting conversations. This included with creatives Storm Saulter and Naomi Campbell, with whom Ambassador Mills met.

There was so much to see and do including:

1. Meeting representatives from Nationwide 90FM, alongside Jamaica's High Commissioner to Canada - Her Excellency Marsha Coore-Lobban, and Sun City104.9 FM to share perspectives on the Conference.

2. Meeting some of those involved in and supporting the Jamaica Diaspora Mentorship Academy.

3. Interacting with Legacy partner representatives Leighton Smith (VM Group) and Paulette Simpson (JN Group) were also always on hand to support the proceedings.

The Embassy is proud to share that Dr. Rose McBean, Dr. Sandra Colly-Durand and Ms. Stephanie Shaw represented the jurisdiction well!

Day 2 of the Diaspora Conference brought more opportunities for networking and information sharing, following the official opening ceremony and keynote address by Dr. the Most Honourable Andrew Holness, ON, PC, MP, Prime Minister of Jamaica.

The Conference began with a Church Service on Sunday, 14th June and completed Day 1 with stimulating presentations and discussions on how the Diaspora can deepen its engagements and partnerships with the Government of Jamaica.

The Embassy celebrates the fact that Dr. Sandra Colly-Durand based in France, is one of the recipients of the 2026 Governor-General's Achievement Awards!

It is always a pleasure to meet Jamaicans representing the country on the international stage. Ambassador Mills met recently with International cricketer Sheldon Cottrell, who was in Belgium for the inaugural EU T20 Belgium competition, which was officially opened last week Saturday, 6th June at the 12 Stars Cricket Club Hofstade. The competition was organised by the Destino Legends Sports LLC, in collaboration with the CEO of Anita Diamonds.

She joined other representatives of the Diplomatic Corps for the Opening Ceremony, including representatives from Malaysia πŸ‡²πŸ‡Ύ , Trinidad and Tobago πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡Ή , Australia πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ί and Namibia πŸ‡³πŸ‡¦.

In keeping with the importance attached to promoting multilateral cooperation, the team at the Embassy met on Monday, 8th June 2026, with the two recently appointed Assistant Secretaries General of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS), Katalaina Sapolu, ASG Global Operations Department (first slide) and Susan Branker Green, ASG Policy and Programmes Department (second slide).

It was an important opportunity for Ambassador Mills to extend congratulations and express Jamaica's support for their efforts to advance the work of the Organisation to deliver tangible benefits to Member States and their citizens.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡²πŸ‡³πŸ‡±πŸ‡΅πŸ‡¦ As the Embassy works to strengthen cooperation between Jamaica and other countries, Ambassador Mills was pleased to have had very fruitful discussions on 2nd June 2026, with Ambassador Marjan Kamstra, Director of the Western Hemisphere Department in the Netherlands’ Foreign Ministry (first slide).

Ambassador Mills also had very useful exchanges with Her Excellency Sally Hoo Lui, Ambassador of the Republic of Panama to the Netherlands and the current Coordinator of the Group of Latin American and Caribbean States (GRULAC) (second slide).

The Embassy looks forward to deepening its engagements with its partners.

πŸ‡―πŸ‡²πŸ‡ΎπŸ‡ͺlast week 2nd June 2026, on the margins of the presentation of Letters of Credence to the King of the Netherlands, Ambassador Mills paid a courtesy call on Her Excellency Sahar Ghanem, Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Netherlands and Dean of the Diplomatic Corps.

They had fruitful discussions about the importance of multilateralism and a rules-based international order. It was also acknowledged that Jamaica and Yemen will celebrate 47 years of diplomatic relations this coming September.
