Il y a une semaine, nous inaugurions le mémorial du Big Fat Butterfly 🛫 en présence de la famille de James Morris Liddel, navigateur sur l’appareil, en présence des autorités militaires américaines et belges, des représentants de la Ville de Binche, ainsi que de nombreux sympathisants. Si nous avions des appréhensions vis-à-vis de la météo qui ne fut pas clémente en ce jour, c’est un peu comme si le ciel lui aussi partageait notre peine. Cependant, la création du monument et son inauguration furent des moments heureux après quelques doutes rapidement balayés d’un revers de la main, grâce à toutes les personnes qui nous ont aidées et soutenues dans le projet. -Les autorités militaires américaines, de la Base aérienne de Chièvres, du Shape et de l’OTAN qui ont également fait le déplacement et qui nous prouvent que le sacrifice de ces soldats ne fut pas vain,
-Les autorités militaires belges de la Base aérienne de Beauvechain et du Commandement militaire de la Province du Hainaut, qui nous montrent le respect qu’il peut y avoir entre les soldats de deux armées, 80 ans après la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale,
-Messieurs Jean-Pol Choiset et Guy Brichard et le president de la Zone I de l’Armée Secrète
-Monsieur Lison.

Ce week-end commémoratif fut une indéniable réussite grâce à vous tous, cette cérémonie fût pour nous inoubliable grâce à votre participation et vos soutiens,
Encore merci, merci pour l’équipage du Big Fat Butterfly, Donald Decker, Roy Jorgensenn James Liddel, Frederick Gatens, Andrew Nowak, Alton Elkin, Robert Albine, Michael Balca, Elmer Bethke et John Crocker, grâce à vous tous, leurs noms sont sortis de l’oubli, leur sacrifice ne fût pas vain.

🇺🇸 A week ago, we inaugurated the Big Fat Butterfly memorial in the presence of the family of James Morris Liddell, navigator on the aircraft, as well as American and Belgian military authorities, representatives from the City of Binche, and many supporters. Although we had concerns about the weather, which was not favorable that day, it felt as though the sky itself shared in our sorrow. Nevertheless, the creation of the monument and its inauguration were joyful moments, after a few doubts that were quickly swept away thanks to all those who helped and supported us throughout this project.
On behalf of the non-profit association "Les Jeunes du B40," we would like to express our unconditional thanks to:
-Mr. Robert Termolle for the initial information about the bomber,
-The Mathys family for the plot of land they donated in memory, and Mr. Vardar, owner of the castle,
-Mr. Fabien Degohrain for his outstanding sculpting work,
-Mr. Ulrich Buisseret for his time and skills in creating the floating slab,
-The company Binche-Béton for their prompt and efficient response,
-Frank, for the architectural plans, an essential first step in building the monument,

This commemorative weekend was an undeniable success thanks to all of you. This ceremony was unforgettable for us because of your participation and support.
