Strengthening Engagement with De Beers in London 🇧🇼💎🇬🇧

On the 27th August 2026, His Excellency Ambassador Justice Dr. Zeinub Kebonang undertook a familiarisation meeting with De Beers Group in London alongside High Commissioner of Botswana to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Shimane L.G Kelaotswe to engage with Mr Al Cook, CEO of De Beers Group and Senior Management of the company.

The meeting provided an opportunity to deepen the longstanding relationship between Botswana and De Beers and to gain greater insight into the company's global operations delving deep into De Beers Diamond technology and innovation, Diamond Traceability, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability initiatives which are impactful to the evolving diamond industry.

Discussions also highlighted the importance of Botswana's diamond sector to the country's economy, as well as opportunities to promote Botswana's natural diamonds and the broader development of the diamond value chain.

The engagement forms part of the Embassy's continued efforts to strengthen economic diplomacy and foster strategic partnerships with key stakeholders in the global diamond industry.

Botswana and De Beers have shared a longstanding partnership, with the relationship continuing to evolve towards greater value creation and opportunities for Botswana.

The tour ended with a visit to De Beers flagship store to appreciate the craftsmanship, heritage and storytelling behind De Beers jewellery collection.

📣🇪🇺💱🏛️💼 The Embassy of the Republic of Botswana extends its warmest congratulations to Ms. Oratile Temoso on the successful completion of her term with the European Investment Bank (EIB) Young Professional’s Traineeship Programme.

The programme is under a trust fund called the Financial Inclusion Fund (FIF) which serves as a specialized, highly selective recruitment pipeline designed specifically for young professionals from non-EU developing nations. While employment at the European Investment Bank (EIB) is generally restricted strictly to citizens of EU Member States, the FIF programme creates an intentional nationality exception. It allows talented individuals from all 79 African, Caribbean, and Pacific (OACPS) partner countries to live and work at the bank’s global headquarters.

We commend Oratile for her dedication and professionalism during her time at the EIB, where she gained valuable experience in development finance and international partnerships over an 11 month period from September 2025- August 2026. Her journey is an inspiring example of the growing contribution of young Batswana’s engagement with European and international institutions. We wish her every success in the next chapter of her professional journey and look forward to seeing her continued contribution to Botswana's development.

📣🇧🇼➕➖🟰🔬📚 Yesterday morning, His Excellency Justice Dr. Zeinub Kebonang received a delegation from Botswana Examination Council led by Dr. Bathsheba Mbongwe, Acting Chief Executive Officer, accompanied by NRC Mr. Tshepiso Masukusuku and Instruments Coordinator Mr. Thanks Guga. The delegation will be here in Brussels for a week attending the 5th Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study 2027 (TIMSS).

The Ministry of Child Welfare and Basic Education through implementing partner Botswana Examinations Council (BEC) is participating in the TIMSS 2027, a major international assessment that measures the achievement of learners in Mathematics and Science and provides countries with internationally comparable evidence to inform education policy, curriculum improvement and teaching and learning.

Botswana is participating at the Grade 8 level (Form 2), with the country currently preparing for the Main Data Collection following the successful completion of its Field Test earlier in 2026. The 5th TIMSS 2027 National Research Coordinators (NRC) Meeting, brings together representatives from 42 countries.

The meeting is an important technical milestone in the study, focusing on the review and finalisation of assessment and contextual instruments, survey operations, and preparations for the Main Data Collection in 2027. Botswana's participation in the meeting demonstrates its commitment to strengthening national assessment capacity and ensuring that the country's implementation of TIMSS 2027 meets the required international technical and quality standards.

On 8 July 2026, Ambassador of the Republic of Botswana to the Kingdom of Belgium, H.E. Justice Dr. Zein Kebonang, officially presented his Letters of Credence to His Majesty King Philippe at the Royal Palace Laeken in Brussels, Belgium.

This auspicious ceremony marked the formal beginning of H.E Justice Dr. Kebonang’s diplomatic mission in Belgium and reaffirmed the strong and friendly relations between Botswana and Belgium.

The two countries continue to cooperate in areas of mutual interest, including mining, trade and investment education, tourism, and multilateral engagement. Botswana and Belgium remain committed to deepening their partnership and advancing shared values of democracy, good governance, and sustainable growth.
