In today’s turbulent geopolitical landscape, Europe’s strategic autonomy has never been more critical. But staying resilient isn’t enough - we must also remain competitive.

That means fully unlocking the potential of Europe’s bioeconomy.

Bio-based industries are more than an alternative. They are a strategic advantage. By reducing dependence on fossil imports and critical raw materials, they strengthen Europe’s independence while driving innovation, growth, and long-term competitiveness.

At the same time, they are essential to building a truly sustainable future, one where economic performance and environmental responsibility go hand in hand.

Europe’s next industrial revolution should be bio-based! The future isn’t just bio-based - it’s sustainable, competitive, and already within reach.

🎺 👑BIC Executive Director Philippe Mengal had a royal audience this week, meeting Britain's King Charles III at Windsor Castle for the Circular Bioeconomy Alliance (CBA) "Roundtables & Reception" event.

The CBA brought together bio-innovators, investment organisations and businesses at Windsor Castle on Monday to discuss what it will take to scale the circular bioeconomy. Discussions focused on new bio-solutions, innovative financing mechanisms and cross-stakeholder collaboration. During the discussion, participants emphasised the need for strong cross-sector alignment and the role of convenings like this one to support collaboration.

The roundtable discussions were followed later in the day by a reception, which was joined by The King🫅. Philippe had the opportunity to explain to The King what BIC is and our mission.

🔦 Time to shine a spotlight on another successful Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking - CBE JU flagship biorefinery project! 🏭

📽️ Virginie Roux from BIC member MICHELIN Engineered Polymers explains the Cerisea Project - producing 5-HMF, a key bio-based chemical platform, on an industrial scale for the first time. 🍒 🍈 🍋 Derived from fructose and advanced fructose from non-food sidestreams, 5-HMF has the potential to replace various conventional petrochemical building blocks.

💶 This once again demonstrates how public and private financing are coming together in Europe's mission to become more competitive in a sustainable way, as we try to reduce our use of polluting fossil-based products and processes. 🤝 That's what public-private partnerships are all about and why they are so essential to Europe's bioeconomy.
