networks, local authorities, groups and rural projects are already testing solutions that keep regions vibrant: creating local jobs, improving services, investing in skills and connectivity.

The Right to Stay Strategy: Your Region, Your Future wants to learn from this work. A call for evidence is now open via the Have Your Say portal, inviting concrete examples and policy insights on how EU funds can support people’s right to stay. Instructions and FAQs are available in all 24 EU languages.

🤝 Encourage partners in your network to share their experiences and help ensure that cohesion policy and rural development reflect real local realities.

Connectivity is becoming as crucial as water and soil for Europe’s farmers. 🌱📶

On 2 June, from 11:00–12:30 CEST, the European Broadband Competence Offices Network will present the first findings of a new study for the European Commission on future connectivity needs for precision farming.

The study explores how current and future connectivity – including satellite, 5G and hybrid solutions – can support the digital transformation of agriculture and forestry in rural and remote areas.

🚜 The next generation of Europe's farmers could have holidays – here's how.

Lack of access to rest, sick leave and family time remains one of the key factors discouraging young people from entering agriculture. However, farm relief services, already available in a few countries, allow farmers to take time off each year, with trained replacement workers stepping in to keep operations running.

Natasha Foote collected the insights of young farmers Aleksis and Elisabeth, from Finland and Sweden.

One benefits from farm relief services. The other doesn't.

And that makes a huge difference.

By ensuring the next generation can finally step away from the fields, Europe may ensure they eventually choose to come back to them. 🌾

What if staying in your region was no longer the harder choice? 🤔

Many EU regions – from islands and mountains to border and outermost areas – struggle with declining populations, fewer quality jobs and shrinking access to services like healthcare and education. For young people and families, moving away can feel like the only option.

The Right to Stay Strategy will promote place‑based solutions to strengthen competitiveness, skills, infrastructure and essential services in territories most affected by depopulation and low growth. This is a key moment for local authorities, groups, NGOs and rural stakeholders to share challenges and success stories from the ground.

📣 Use the Have Your Say consultation to show what makes your region a place where people want and can choose to stay.

🍊 Circular innovation is helping make agri-food processing more sustainable.

In Nafplio, Greece, CHB Group used CAP support to develop a zero-waste model for citrus juice production, combining biological wastewater treatment, rooftop solar panels and digital tools to improve resource efficiency.

The project shows how agrifood businesses can integrate water, energy, waste and data systems into a joined-up sustainability strategy, while strengthening competitiveness and cooperation with local farming communities.

Key results include:
• 100% reuse of organic residues from orange processing
• Over 20 000 m³ of wastewater treated and reused annually
• 30% reduction in electricity use thanks to solar panels
• 12% reduction in CO₂ emissions through energy optimisation
• Increased environmental awareness across the company

This Good Practice demonstrates how CAP support can help rural businesses invest in circular economy solutions that deliver measurable climate, resource and community benefits.

Explore the report from the most recent Good Practice Workshop on the “Assessment of the green architecture of CAP Strategic Plans” 🌱📄

Speakers stressed the importance of looking at the full picture—assessing how all green instruments work together and interact 🤝, instead of evaluating them in isolation—and of accounting for both intended outcomes and unintended side effects ⚖️.

Can everyone in Europe choose where to build their future – including in rural and shrinking regions? 🌱

The European Commission’s Right to Stay Strategy: Your Region, Your Future aims to ensure that staying is a real choice, not a forced move away because of missing jobs, services or opportunities.

Across the EU, many regions face ageing populations, youth out‑migration and limited access to essential services, which risks deepening territorial divides and resentment if unaddressed. The strategy will guide how cohesion policy, rural development and other EU funds can work together to support dynamic local economies, quality services and attractive living conditions everywhere.

A call for evidence is now open via the Have Your Say portal until 5 June 2026. Your experiences and ideas will help shape this flagship initiative and future cohesion‑policy priorities.

📢Take part and help ensure that relocating is a choice – not a necessity.

Share your experiences and shape the future of your region by contributing to the strategy here 👉https://tinyurl.com/37c24h48
