➡️ Turning 🇪🇺 EU support into real results in 🇲🇰 North Macedonia!
✅ During her visit to North Macedonia on 8 July, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos met with Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski to discuss the country’s EU accession path, progress under the Reform Agenda and priorities for gradual integration into the EU.
✅ The visit also showcased how EU support is translating into concrete investments that improve people’s everyday lives.
✅ In Skopje, Commissioner Kos visited a student dormitory refurbished with EU funding through the Western Balkans Investment Framework under the Regional Energy Efficiency Programme , implemented by KfW.
✅ The upgraded dormitory will provide modern, energy-efficient accommodation for more than 1,000 students.
✅ The project is expected to reduce energy consumption by more than 40% and cut approximately 2,400 tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year.
➡️ Launched in 2013 under the Western Balkans Investment Framework, the Regional Energy Efficiency Programme (REEP) supports renewable energy and energy efficiency investments across the region. With over €1 billion mobilised to date, it has refurbished more than 90 public buildings, supported 1,500 SMEs and 20,000 households. The achieved annual CO₂ emissions saved is equivalent to removing 183,000+ cars from the roads.

✅"When children enter a renovated school, it’s not just warmer - it’s healthier"
👉 Stefan Koh , an environmental expert at the German Development Bank KfW, speaks to Nedeljnik about how the Regional Energy Efficiency Programme ( ) is transforming schools, student dormitories and district heating systems across the Western Balkans.
✅ "Warmer classrooms, cleaner air and greater energy security. In Serbia, is supporting the energy renovation of 35 public buildings and the development of biomass-based district heating in several municipalities. The next wave is already being prepared: projects in Prijepolje, an expansion in Novi Pazar, as well as solar energy and heat pumps for the Belgrade district heating plants Dunav and Cerak. Regional experience shows that renovated buildings can use up to 50% less energy, allowing municipalities to redirect these savings towards other important priorities that benefit citizens"

Exceptionally low water levels near Prahovo in Serbia have once again brought the remains of the sunken WWII German fleet into view 🧐

Nearly 200 vessels were scuttled in this part of the Danube in 1944. More than eight decades later, they can still narrow the navigable channel and pose risks to modern river transport.

🇪🇺 But this is also a story about looking forward.

With substantial support through the WBIF - Western Balkans Investment Framework, work is addressing this historic bottleneck and helping create a safer, wider and more reliable navigable channel on the .
