The 2026 EU Cancer Mission calls for proposals under Horizon Europe are still open!

These calls aim to support collaborative projects advancing:
• Cutting-edge research: Virtual Human Twins and microbiome prediction

• Cancer care innovation: immunotherapy trials and precise palliative care

• Better quality of life and mental health for young and older cancer patients

• Cancer research capacity building, with dedicated support for Ukraine

Researchers, innovators, healthcare organisations, universities, public authorities and stakeholders across Europe are invited to apply.

But trust is under pressure. Disinformation spreads faster than facts.

Too often, knowledge struggles to reach the conversations where it is needed most.

Science can help reverse this trend. By exposing disinformation. By communicating evidence clearly. By informing policymakers. By engaging citizens in meaningful dialogue.

Can Venice be saved from rising seas?
A new study supported by the EU-funded P2R and CoCliCo projects explores the long-term future of Venice and its lagoon under climate change. The conclusion is sobering: no adaptation strategy can preserve the city exactly as it is today indefinitely.
From the MOSE flood barriers to giant d***s and even the possible relocation of parts of the city in the distant future, every option involves difficult trade-offs between safety, heritage, ecology, culture and cost.
The findings highlight a challenge facing coastal regions worldwide: adapting to sea level rise may ultimately mean accepting profound change.

How can Europe better support women in research, innovation and startups?

The newly published report summarising contributions to the Call for Evidence provides valuable insights from 289 individuals, institutions and organisations.

Among the key issues raised:

🔹 Caregiving penalties, limited childcare support and unclear career pathways
🔹 Gender-based violence and harassment in academia
🔹 Cultural biases and limited access to funding affecting women entrepreneurs

Data is an essential driver of research and innovation, but complying with GDPR may be sometimes challenging due to the lack of a harmonised approach.

The European Data Protection Board (EDPB) has released new draft guidelines on using personal data for scientific research.

It may sound like science fiction, but researchers from the EU-funded ROBOFOOD project are developing robots made from edible, biodegradable and non-toxic materials.
The team has already created semi-edible drones and fish-food pellets that can swim, opening up new possibilities for environmental monitoring and delivering nutrition to animals.
