EESC - European Economic and Social Committee

EESC - European Economic and Social Committee We are the EU’s civil society assembly.

Our members represent civil society organisations from the different sectors all across Europe, including employers, trade unions, professional and community associations, youth organisations, women's groups, consumers, environmental campaigners and many more. As a consultative assembly, we advise EU decision-makers and ensure that civil society across the continent has a voice in Europe’s develop

ment. Our 329 members work on specific recommendations to the EU, called ‘opinions’ - suggesting changes to planned laws or addressing problems where they see them arise. We are a unique forum for consultation, dialogue and consensus between these people, who all keep their jobs in their organisations back home.

Repeat with us: Gender equality cannot wait.

It is not only a fundamental EU value, but also a driver of economic growth, competitiveness and democratic resilience.

In our opinion on the European Commission’s Gender Equality Strategy 2026–2030, we welcome the renewed commitment to advancing equality across the European Union, especially at a time when equality policies and fundamental rights face growing challenges.

But commitments alone are not enough. Gender equality must now be translated into concrete action, delivery and measurable results; it is essential to Europe’s democracy, competitiveness and resilience.

Energy storage is systemically important infrastructure, vital to building a sovereign, affordable and resilient European Energy Union.

Without a comprehensive EU-wide strategy, we cannot deliver an energy transition that is feasible, socially fair and territorially balanced. That’s why we call on:
⚡ integrating storage plans and ensuring the development of storage, proportional to the development of renewable energy sources;
⚡ integrating storage into policies for decentralised solutions, energy communities, vulnerable consumers and energy infrastructure cybersecurity;
⚡ securing public funding and European Investment Bank support to invest in storage technology;
⚡ treating energy storage as part of services of general interest while supporting quality job creation.

The success of our migration policy will be judged not only by its effectiveness, but also by its ability to uphold European values.

Our migration policy must be built on rights and integration, not just border controls and returns. We welcome European Commission's proposal, but we believe that these elements are overshadowed by a broader political focus on control and deterrence.

We call for:
🔹 humane approach in border management and returns;
🔹 more efficient integration policies;
🔹 safeguards against labour exploitation;
🔹 fundamental rights as a non-negotiable in the process.

If we want our livestock sector to remain competitive, sustainable and resilient, we need to place livestock farmers at the centre of Europe's food security, climate ambitions and rural economy.

We welcome the European Commission's livestock strategy, but livestock farmers must be treated as partners in the transition - and given the financial and policy tools to succeed.

This is why we call for a positive livestock strategy built on three equal pillars:
🐄 sustainability;
🐄 competitiveness;
🐄 animal welfare.

Travel across the EU should be fair and fully accessible, no matter how you choose to journey.

We welcome the European Commission's proposal to review the EU passenger rights framework and support efforts to simplify and strengthen passenger rights across all modes of transport. We are firmly advocating for:
🔸 harmonised rights across multimodal journeys;
🔸 full transparency on baggage rules and no hidden fees for families;
🔸 better protection and swift refunds during mass disruptions or operator insolvencies;
🔸 proactive, clear information for travellers at every stage of their trip.
