We are the EU’s civil society assembly.

Our members represent civil society organisations from the different sectors all across Europe, including employers, trade unions, professional and community associations, youth organisations, women's groups, consumers, environmental campaigners and many more. As a consultative assembly, we advise EU decision-makers and ensure that civil society across the continent has a voice in Europe’s development. Our 329 members work on specific recommendations to the EU, called ‘opinions’ - suggesting changes to planned laws or addressing problems where they see them arise. We are a unique forum for consultation, dialogue and consensus between these people, who all keep their jobs in their organisations back home.

Poverty affects around 90 million people in the EU. We must act together to eradicate it by 2050.

At our first high-level debate on poverty, our President Seamus Boland joined EU policymakers, civil society and social partners to discuss solutions. Investing early, strengthening services, ensuring quality jobs and preventing poverty across generations are key.

But we need action, adequate funding and results. That's why we signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the European Commission, represented by Executive Vice-President Roxana Mînzatu to work together on implementing the first-ever EU Anti-Poverty Strategy, with civil society and lived experience at its heart.

We stand ready to turn ambition into action through our work.

One year into his presidency, one commitment remains at the heart of our President’s mandate: eradicating poverty.

This cannot be done without civil society, workers, employers at the forefront of this fight. Civil society organisations, social partners, people working on the ground and public institutions all have a role to play in shaping solutions.

This is why, on this special day, we are bringing this commitment to the heart of our October Plenary, with our first-ever high-level debate on poverty.

One year on, the commitment stands. And so does the determination to turn it into action, together, with civil society leading the way.

We are ready to bring the voice of youth to COP17.

In just a few days, our Youth Delegate, Axel Eriksson, will join the EU Delegation at the United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP17) in Armenia, which will mark a key milestone in assessing progress towards the global goal of halting and reversing biodiversity loss by 2030.

At COP17, our Youth Delegate will call for:
🌍 turning commitments into delivery through clear responsibilities, adequate resources and stronger integration of biodiversity across sectors;
🌍 measuring progress and strengthening accountability through data and monitoring;
🌍 making civil society a partner in delivery by ensuring the meaningful participation of young people and other stakeholders.

Today's decisions should not become tomorrow's inequalities.

Building resilient, inclusive, sustainable and democratic societies requires stronger solidarity and social cohesion across generations. That is why intergenerational fairness must be more than a principle.

We support the EU Strategy on Intergenerational Fairness and call for:
🤝 quality, affordable and accessible essential services for all;
🤝 a European youth empowerment package focused on affordable housing, quality jobs, fair wages, mental health and social protection;
🤝 long-term goals backed by clear targets, measurable indicators and accountability mechanisms;
🤝 a stronger voice for young and older people in civil dialogue and decision-making.

Energy Labelling must cover the entire product lifecycle - from purchase to repair and resale.

During our September plenary, we emphasised that the new energy labelling system put forward by the European Commission must extend beyond the initial purchase. To protect consumers, support SMEs, and drive a circular economy, we recommend that:

🔎 essential data must stay free and accessible without registration so consumers, repairers, and technicians can service, repair, and resell products;
🔎 digital tools like QR codes and online filters must enhance transparency without obscuring essential data;
🔎 the Commission must also thoroughly assess the environmental and social impacts of the proposed regulation.

Digital infrastructure alone is not enough. To achieve true emissions reductions and circularity, energy labelling must deliver real-world transparency, accessibility, and long-term utility for all.

Struggling to pay rent, putting food back on the supermarket shelf or dreading your energy bill shouldn’t be normal.

This International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we are calling for:
🏠 affordable housing and an end to homelessness;
💡 equal access to affordable energy;
💶 adequate minimum income and quality jobs;
👧 lifting all children out of poverty by 2030;
💼 using the social economy to strengthen communities.

Europe needs stronger public finance to close its investment gaps. 🇪🇺

The EU faces significant investment needs to deliver on its strategic objectives, from the green and digital transitions to competitiveness, resilience and social cohesion. To meet these challenges, we call for stronger public finance and a reinforced role for the European Investment Bank (EIB) Group.

We believe the EIB Group should have greater financial capacity to support projects that strengthen Europe's long-term competitiveness, strategic autonomy and economic resilience.

Public investment is not only about financing today's priorities, but also about building Europe's future.

Today's innovation can help build the resilient food systems of tomorrow.

On World Food Day, we reaffirm our commitment to sustainable, healthy and fair food systems. Innovation and inclusion are key to strengthening food security and safeguarding the future of food.

Through our work, we continue to call for:
🍅 strong EU support to tackle health crises;
🍅 fairer food chains that strengthen farmers’ position;
🍅 the transition towards sustainable livestock systems;
🍅 high food and feed safety standards through simpler, more effective rules.

These priorities will guide our contributions to the 54th session of the UN Committee on World Food Security in Rome, where we will bring the voice of EU civil society to discussions on food security and sustainable agriculture.

Women farmers are essential to Europe’s agricultural future. 🌾

On the International Day of Rural Women, we celebrate their vital role in producing, processing and trading the food that sustains our communities and economies.

Yet, their contributions remain undervalued, while inequalities continue to limit their access to resources, opportunities and decision-making.

This is why, through our recommendations, we call for:
🌱 concrete measures to expand women’s opportunities and strengthen their role in farming;
🌍 increased investment to close gender gaps in access to and control over land;
💶 targeted financial support to help the next generation establish themselves in farming;
🌾 a CAP that enables women farmers to thrive.

Because advancing gender equality also means building fairer, more inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems for all.
