How can Europe deliver that is and scalable?

Housing remains one of Europe's greatest challenges. How can we create homes that are not only affordable, but also environmentally responsible and capable of meeting growing demand?

Join us on Thursday 11 June for the ACE Public Seminar: Architecture for Europe's Housing Future: Beautiful, Affordable, Resilient.

We are pleased to welcome Luca Volpi, architect, sustainability consultant and partner at Societat Orgànica, who will share his expertise and insights on shaping a more resilient housing future for Europe.

Luca will present , an innovative project demonstrating how sustainable housing can be delivered rapidly while building the skills and workforce needed for wider adoption across Europe. "WikiHousing Barcelona is a building. But it is much more: it is a story, it is a process, it is a methodology to rapidly deliver affordable and sustainable housing in the heart of the city and, at the same time, to upskill the workforce we need to scale it across Europe."

is a tool to improve life.

The countdown to the New European Bauhaus 2026 continues, and today we are pleased to spotlight one of the Festival’s inspiring speakers: Anna Heringer.

Anna Heringer became internationally known through the METI School in Rudrapur, Bangladesh—a pioneering project demonstrating how local materials, traditional knowledge and community participation can create architecture that is both innovative and sustainable. Since then, she has completed projects across Asia, Africa and Europe, while teaching at leading institutions including Harvard University, ETH Zürich and the University of Liechtenstein.

Her work promotes natural building materials such as earth, bamboo and timber, while highlighting architecture’s role in social, environmental and economic development.

Reflecting on the importance of sharing resources and rethinking how we live together, Heringer told ACE:

💬 “We have to share resources, we have to share spaces, and then we can create better qualities. If we share things as a total, we possess more as a community.”

For Heringer, responding to today’s challenges is not simply about technological innovation. It requires a renewed commitment to people, communities and the responsible use of local resources. Sustainable architecture should strengthen local economies, value craftsmanship and reconnect the built environment with nature.

🟢 Join us at the New European Bauhaus Festival 2026 to hear Anna Heringer’s vision for a more sustainable, inclusive and beautiful future.

We love /// We Share

We are pleased to share the open call for the second cohort of Pioneering Places — the flagship programme of the Davos Baukultur Alliance, supporting places and regions committed to quality-led urban development.

The programme invites applications from places where critical decisions are actively shaping the future of the built environment — from public space and infrastructure to policy, culture, landscape, and regeneration.

Selected participants will have the opportunity to:
• accelerate a strategic urban initiative
• engage with leading international experts and institutions
• contribute to new models for inclusive, sustainable, and liveable places
• amplify their work within a global network and platform

International architectural competition

We are pleased to share the launch of the international architectural competition for the Christo and Jeanne-Claude Center for Contemporary Art in Gabrovo, Bulgaria.

Initiated by the Municipality of Gabrovo, the competition seeks a visionary proposal for the adaptive reuse of the former Textile Technical School — a site deeply connected to Christo’s hometown and the material legacy of textiles that resonates with the artists’ practice.

More than a museum, the future center is envisioned as a living platform for artistic production, experimentation, education, and public engagement. The project will include exhibition spaces, artist residencies, workshops, educational programs, research initiatives, and public amenities designed to foster cultural exchange and creativity.

Participants are invited to imagine a project that:
• preserves and reinterprets the existing architectural heritage
• strengthens the connection to the Yantra River and surrounding public spaces
• creates inclusive and flexible environments for art and community life
• integrates sustainable and intelligent design strategies
• reflects the spirit of freedom, imagination, and transformation associated with Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Bringing together an internationally recognized jury of architects, curators, and cultural leaders, the competition marks an important step toward establishing a new cultural landmark for Bulgaria and the international contemporary art community.
