Είναι όταν μια ομιλία μεταφράζεται αρχικά σε μια γλώσσα και στη συνέχεια μια άλλη καμπίνα παίρνει αυτή τη μετάφραση και τη διερμηνεύει εκ νέου. Ουσιαστικά, είναι μετάφραση της μετάφρασης.

Ακούγεται απλό, αλλά απαιτεί μεγάλη συγκέντρωση, ταχύτητα και εμπιστοσύνη μεταξύ των διερμηνέων για να εξασφαλιστεί η ομαλή ροή της διαδικασίας.

It’s when a speech is first translated into one language, then picked up by another booth and interpreted again. It's essentially a translation of a translation.

Sounds simple, but it takes serious focus, speed, and trust between booths to keep everything flowing smoothly. ⚡

Over three weekends, 150 citizens from 27 EU countries met to discuss how Europe can be better prepared for future crises.

This weekend in Brussels, they presented their recommendations to the European Commission.

From interpreters to conference managers and technicians, our teams worked together behind the scenes to make sure citizens could participate fully, speak in their own language and understand one another clearly.

When people come together from across Europe, multilingualism matters. It’s what allows everyone to be part of the same conversation.

It was a pleasure to support these important discussions and to help citizens share their ideas across languages.

Last week, EU finance ministers and Central Bank Governors gathered in Lefkosia for the Informal Meeting of the Economic and Financial Affairs Council. 💼💶

At the heart of the talks was boosting Europe’s competitiveness in the face of current geopolitical challenges and ways that shape Europe’s financial future without putting the EU’s long-term fiscal sustainability at risk.

DG Interpretation was on hand to ensure seamless multilingual communication throughout the meeting, helping leaders connect, understand, and act together. 🎧

😂 How do interpreters handle jokes or literary quotes in speeches?

You can’t always translate humour, so sometimes the best approach is to describe the meaning rather than the exact words – the same goes for philosophers and writers.

While speaking more than one is fundamental for consecutive interpreters, they also must be good listeners. 🎙️👂

This might sound straightforward, but interpreters listen in a very different way to other people because the purpose of listening is different. Interpreters are not listening to react or join in the conversation, they are listening so that they can remember and then accurately and faithfully reproduce what was said in another language. 🗣️
