Young Democrats for Europe (YDE)

Young Democrats for Europe (YDE) Young Democrats for Europe (YDE) / Jeunes Démocrates Européens (JDE)
YDE is the youth wing of the European Democratic Party.

We are part of the Erasmus Generation. We consider the European Union as our common home. National boundaries are no more a limit but a gate to share our cultures and common values with other European citizens. Students and young Europeans have long played as a spin-off in the process of European integration. Exchange programs such as Erasmus helped to develop a stronger feeling of participation i

nspiring a common European identity. We embrace the key role of democratic principles, underlined in the Lisbon Treaty and enshrined in our political belief: democracy, freedom, equality, participation, sustainability and solidarity.

🦩 The protests in Albania are not about opposing tourism or foreign investment.

They are about transparency, environmental protection, and the right of citizens to participate in decisions that affect their communities and natural heritage.

At the center of the debate is the planned development in Zvërnec, part of the Vjosa–Narta ecosystem—home to flamingos, pelicans, wetlands, and hundreds of protected species.

Citizens, scientists, environmental activists, and members of the Albanian diaspora are asking a simple question:
If these areas were protected for decades, what evidence justified weakening those protections?
As peaceful demonstrations continue, protesters are calling for independent environmental assessments, full transparency on permits and agreements, meaningful public consultation, and the protection of one of Europe’s most valuable coastal ecosystems.
The flamingos have no voice. Citizens are speaking for them.

This last few days, one chant resonated in the European Parliament, loud and clear “SEND THEM BACK”. Well let us be loud and clear as well, sent back must be those who lead a politic of fear, those who believe that our values are weaknesses and that Europe can outsource its responsibilities.

Europe is filled with talent and youth, so what are we waiting to invest in quality jobs, affordable housing, education, research, innovation,…?

Europe’s future will not be build on fear, it will be built on talent, dignity, and hope. Hope for a better future where return hubs are not the question.

Registrations are now OPEN for the 2026 Summit of Young Elected Local and Regional Leaders ( ), taking place on 22–23 September 2026 in Brussels, Belgium! 📣

Climate change remains a pressing reality for our communities. Yet local leaders today are governing in a world shaped by multiple crises: war and insecurity, rising costs, budget pressures, and growing demands on public services. When everything feels urgent, how do we keep climate action on the agenda?

Together with European Liberal Youth (LYMEC) and Young Democrats for Europe (YDE), the Renew Europe Group in the European Committee of the Regions (COR) is bringing together young elected politicians from across Europe for a discussion on the realities of governing and delivering climate action at the local level.

This year's Summit will be chaired by Clare Colleran Molloy, Deputy Mayor of Clare County Council in Ireland and Renew Europe COR Coordinator in the ENVE (environmental policy) Commission, and will feature a keynote intervention by MEP Lukas Sieper.

✅ Who can apply?
Young elected local and regional politicians aged 18–35 within the Renew Europe youth movements.

📅 Applications are open until 3 July 2026:

Don't miss this opportunity to exchange ideas, share challenges, and help shape the future of climate leadership in Europe's cities and regions.

📍 On June 4 at 18:00, join us for “The Future of Serbia After the Elections: Between Domestic Tensions and EU Aspirations”, organised by the Young Democrats for Europe and the European Democratic Party.

The discussion will feature Members of the European Parliament Sandro Gozi and Lukas Sieper, as well as our President Alice Bernard-Montini:

Together with Serbian students directly experiencing the tense situation unfolding every day in Belgrade, we will discuss the country’s political future ahead of the national elections.
In a moment of deep social and political tension, they will share their experiences, hopes and fears, and explain why, for many young Serbians, the European Union is no longer just an aspiration, but the only realistic future for Serbia 🇪🇺

🥂 The event will be followed by a light reception.

Not all arrivals are treated the same.

In the first days of May, 147 cruise passengers arrived in the Canary Islands.
So did 569 migrants crossing the Atlantic in overcrowded dinghies.

Only one arrival brought ministers, cameras, and headlines.

Meanwhile, people continue risking and losing their lives at sea every day. Local communities, volunteers, and rescue workers in the Canary Islands keep showing up, with or without attention.

Solidarity cannot depend on nationality, status, or ticket price.

The Europe we deserve is one with real opportunities, affordable living, and a future young people can believe in.

This Europe Day, we speak about what matters.

Happy Europe Day!
