Today marks 25 years since the Netherlands made history. On 1 April 2001, civil marriage was opened up to same-sex couples.

At midnight, four couples in Amsterdam were the first to say “I do”. It made headlines around the world – a powerful moment of progress, love, and equal rights. 🌈

In the years since, many countries across Europe and around the world have followed this example, taking important steps towards equality and recognition for all couples.

A quarter of a century later, we reflect on what that means. Love deserves recognition. Love deserves protection. And love should be free.

As EPPride, we proudly express our support. And we call upon all countries in Europe and worldwide to open up civil marriage to same-sex couples. Because a society is at its best when everyone can be themselves and celebrate their love openly.

Celebrate 25 years of love. 💕🌈

The last 2 days we have participated in the Political Assembly in EPP - European People's Party.

We have thanked party colleagues in the Council of Europe and the European Parliament for important decisions related to the ban on conversion therapy and the recognition of the rights of trans women.

Also our good cooperation with the EPP group in the Committee of the Regions is fruitful and will bear results.

We also raised concerns about proposed family legislation in Ukraine which, if adopted, will pull the country away from Europe

This week, our working group for local and regional policy (, , and )had a very useful meeting with EPP - European People's Party representatives in the EU Committee of the Regions.

The topic was European Commission's proposed Equality Strategy 2026-2030, and where local and regional politicians can make a difference.

We addressed some overall structures and the value of exchanging experiences and creating best practices in areas across party and national borders.

At the same time, we had the opportunity to raise important individual elements such as safe arenas for young people, the importance of elderly care that includes LGBTIQ+, a toolbox for uncovering and counteracting conversion therapy, the dangers of demographic changes especially in urban areas and the value of rainbow migration programs.

We look forward to further cooperation!

It is with deep sadness that we have received the news of the unexpected passing of Costas Gavrielides, our board member and leader of our Cypriot organization, Democratic Rally LGBT Allies and Friends.

EPPride became acquainted with Costas when his Cypriot LGBT+ network became a member of the EPP - European People's Party LGBTIQ+ network EPPride, and he immediately joined our board.

We got to know Costas as a skilled and reflective politician. He has contributed knowledge and insight to our discussions and studies. He had important experiences as a former presidential advisor at Kyrops, and with important experiences from work within national LGBT organisations, European pride networks and from ILGA-Europe.

Costas, his insight, political instincts, caring, smile and infectious humor will be deeply missed. He will live on in our memories and in our hearts.

Με βαθιά οδύνη και θλίψη η ηγεσία, οι Βουλευτές και τα στελέχη του Δημοκρατικού Συναγερμού πληροφορηθήκαμε τον αδόκητο θάνατο του Κώστα Γαβριηλίδη.

Ο Κώστας Γαβριηλίδης υπήρξε ένας νέος άνθρωπος με ενεργή και ουσιαστική παρουσία στα κοινά και ως μέλος του Πολιτικού Γραφείου της Παράταξής μας. Ξεχώριζε, και θα τον θυμόμαστε πάντοτε, για την παρρησία, το ήθος και το θάρρος με τα οποία υπερασπιζόταν τις αρχές και τις αξίες του.

Πάντα στην πρώτη γραμμή, έδωσε τις δικές του μάχες για την προάσπιση των ανθρωπίνων δικαιωμάτων και για μια κοινωνία χωρίς διακρίσεις αφήνοντας ανεξίτηλο το αποτύπωμά του.

Εκφράζουμε τα ειλικρινή και βαθύτατα συλλυπητήρια μας στην οικογένεια, τους οικείους και τους συνεργάτες του.

Η μνήμη και η προσφορά του θα παραμείνουν ζωντανές.

Αιωνία του η μνήμη.

We are glad the European Commission follow the recommendation from our Annual Meeting by formally opening an infringement procedure after Prime Minister Robert Fico made Slovakia adopted constitutional amendments claiming to “protect national identity” in a range of areas, including family law, education and “public morality”.
