| 📍Brussels, 26.05.2026 🇬🇷 The Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, Yannis Andrianos, accompanied by the Secretary General for Agricultural Policy and International Relations, Antonis Filippis, participated in the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council.

Greece supports the EU's orientation towards active support for producers and the resilience of European agriculture.

🔊The Greek positions at the EU Council:

☑️Support for farmers and strengthening the competitiveness of European agriculture.
☑️The need for EU trade policy in the agri-food sector to remain open and outward-looking, but also fair, balanced, and strategically resilient, ensuring genuine reciprocity in trade agreements so that European producers are not exposed to unfair competition.
☑️Strong protection of EU quality products and Geographical Indications, highlighting that products such as feta, olive oil, table olives, and PDO wines are both an economic resource and part of Greece’s cultural and agricultural identity.
☑️In the discussion on the availability and affordability of fertilizers: Farmers’ access to essential inputs at affordable costs, as a prerequisite for EU’s food security, agricultural competitiveness and strategic autonomy. Europe must act on three levels: immediate support for producers, a realistic transition to more sustainable solutions without imposing new burdens on farmers, and strengthening Europe’s fertilizer production capacity.
☑️The need for a balanced approach to the green transition, based on energy efficiency and diversification of supply chains in the fertilizer sector.
☑️Stronger mandatory country-of-origin labelling at EU level and its extension to more product categories, in order to ensure transparency for consumers and protection against unfair and misleading practices.
☑️Enhanced EU action on water scarcity and drought impacts, with emphasis on water storage projects, irrigation modernisation, early warning systems, and better integration of water management into the Common Agricultural Policy.
☑️Regarding the implementation of the CAP Strategic Plan: Greece’s long-standing position favors the replacing of the current decommitment rule with an N+3 rule for the 2023–2027 period, in order to ensure the effective implementation of interventions and prevent the loss of European funds.
