Met meer dan 2 500 medewerkers is de POD Wetenschapsbeleid of BELSPO (dat staat voor Belgian Science Policy Office) als centrale actor van het wetenschapsbeleid geen instelling als een andere. Samen met vier directies en tien erkende federale wetenschappelijke instellingen, hebben wij als opdracht het wetenschappelijk onderzoek en de innovatie op alle gebieden te stimuleren, met als doel een beter

e toekomst voor België. BELSPO is werkzaam op heel wat gebieden, te weten ruimtevaartonderzoek en -toepassingen, de financiering van wetenschappelijke onderzoeksprogramma’s, het opnemen van nationale en internationale onderzoekers in een netwerk, het klimaatonderzoek en de financiering van de koninklijke musea. BELSPO beheert ook het Prinses Elisabethstation op Antarctica en is eigenaar van het oceanografisch onderzoeksschip RV Belgica II. Bij BELSPO zijn wetenschappen en cultuur nauw verweven voor een duurzamere en harmonieuzere maatschappij. Wij leveren de federale regering betrouwbare en gevalideerde gegevens waarmee zij weloverwogen beslissingen kan nemen op het gebied van de strijd tegen de klimaatverandering, de biodiversiteit, het poolonderzoek, de digitalisering, de erfgoedwetenschappen en alle maatschappelijke uitdagingen. BELSPO dat centraal wordt aangestuurd in het WTC III in Brussel, beheert een jaarlijks budget van meer dan 664 miljoen euro.

Il est l'acteur central de la politique scientifique en Belgique. Avec 4 directions et 10 Établissements scientifiques fédéraux reconnus, notre mission est de stimuler la recherche scientifique et l'innovation dans tous les domaines, pour bâtir un avenir meilleur pour la Belgique. Les domaines de BELSPO sont variés, allant de la recherche et les applications spatiales, au financement de programmes de recherche scientifique, en passant par la mise en réseau des chercheurs nationaux et internationaux, l’étude du climat, ou le financement des musées royaux. BELSPO gère aussi la base Princesse Elisabeth en Antarctique et est propriétaire du navire océanographique RV Belgica. Au sein de Belspo, sciences et culture sont imbriquées pour développer une société plus éclairée, durable et harmonieuse. Nous offrons au gouvernement fédéral, des données fiables et validées, lui permettant de prendre des décisions éclairées dans des domaines tels que la lutte contre les changements climatiques, la biodiversité, la recherche polaire, la digitalisation, la science du patrimoine et tous les enjeux sociétaux. Dotée d’une administration centrale située au WTC III à Bruxelles, Belspo gère un budget annuel de plus de 664 millions d’euros.

It is the central player in science policy in Belgium. With 4 directorates and 10 recognised federal scientific establishments, our mission is to stimulate scientific research and innovation in all fields, to build a better future for Belgium. BELSPO's areas of activity are wide-ranging, from space research and applications to funding scientific research programs, networking national and international researchers, studying the climate and funding the Royal Museums. BELSPO also manages the Princess Elisabeth Station in Antarctica and owns the oceanographic vessel RV Belgica II. At Belspo, science and culture are intertwined to develop a more enlightened, sustainable and harmonious society. We provide the federal government with reliable and validated data, enabling it to make informed decisions in areas such as the fight against climate change, biodiversity, polar research, digitalization, heritage science and all societal issues.
