MABOSHE DISCUSSES ZAMBIA'S DEMOCRATIC COMMITMENT AND ECONOMIC RECOVERY WITH NEW BELGIAN ENVOY
Brussels – June 16, 2026. Belgium's Ambassador-designate to the United Republic of Tanzania, Ms. Lot Debruyne, paid a courtesy call to the Embassy of the Republic of Zambia on Tuesday, 15 June 2026.
Ms. Debruyne was received by Zambia's Chargé d'Affaires, Mr. Charles Maboshe, alongside Defence Attaché Brigadier General Freeman Katuta and other diplomatic staff.
Mr. Maboshe congratulated Ms. Debruyne on her appointment as the Belgian Government representative to Tanzania, Malawi, Mauritius, and Zambia, and wished her every success in her new role as Head of Mission.
The two diplomats discussed matters of mutual interest between the peoples of Zambia and Belgium. On the economic partnership front, Mr. Maboshe and Ms. Debruyne discussed bilateral cooperation in trade, investment, and partnerships in clean energy, agriculture, mining, tourism, and transport.
And on matters of strategic infrastructure development, they discussed Critical Raw Materials (CRM), Electric Vehicle Batteries (EVB), and the development of the Lobito Corridor value chain.
In the area of democratic commitment, Mr. Maboshe assured the Ambassador-designate that Zambia remained committed to delivering a peaceful, free, fair, and credible election on August 13, 2026, including the maintenance of its traditionally peaceful post-election atmosphere.
Ms. Debruyne is an experienced diplomat who previously served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo (2022–2026), prior to her current appointment.
