Europe Day isn’t just about celebrating Europe. It’s about deciding what kind of future we want to live in.

As Young Pirates, we want a Europe that is:

Free - where the internet stays open, private, and fair.

Green - where climate action is urgent, ambitious, and actually delivers.

Democratic - where young people have a real voice, not just a vote every few years.

Inclusive - where everyone belongs, no matter where they come from, who they love, or how they identify.

Open - where education, knowledge, and culture are accessible to all.

Digital - powered by innovation, open-source technology, and people, not monopolies.

Fair - where workers and young people aren’t left behind while corporations make billions.

United - because Europe is stronger when we stand together against hate, authoritarianism, and corruption.

Today marks the 30th anniversary of the International Day of Silence, a day of action to spread awareness of the bullying and harassment experienced by q***r students. To spread awareness, allies around the world take a vow of silence for the day, shining light on one of the many ways oppression affects the q***r community: by ignoring their voices

Today, April 6th, is International As*xuality Day, a day to promote advocacy for, celebration of, education on and solidarity with people on the as*xual spectrum. As*xual identities are often forgotten or even deliberately excluded in q***r rights advocacy. One cause for this are common, fundamental misunderstandings about what as*xuality is. Like other s*xual orientations, as*xuality is more defined by how a person experiences s*xual attraction, not by their attitude towards s*x as an activity; and like all other aspects human s*xuality, attraction exists on a spectrum. As*xual people tend to either experience no s*xual attraction towards other people, or they experience it only weakly, rarely, only under specific conditions, or some combination of these. As*xuality doesn't automatically entail an aversion towards s*x or a complete disinterest in romantic relationships, for instance.

This all matters for the same reason awareness and inclusivity matter for all forms of s*xuality, q***r and even heteronormative. When the full variety of human experiences isn't recognised by society, through e.g. due consideration in political decisionmaking, proper media representation, and social inclusion, people outside the prevailing norm are left to struggle with feelings of isolation, alienation, and even dehumanisation. Increased recognition of as*xuality doesn't only benefit as*xuals, it also helps open up space for everyone to have better conversations and increase our collective understanding of s*xuality and how norms around it shape us and our societies. *xual *xualityday
