The Ambassador of Malta to Belgium Vanni Xuereb and his spouse Charlo Baldacchino were pleased to join fellow ambassadors accredited to Belgium and their spouses at a luncheon hosted by the Belgian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Maxime Prévot, in the beautiful surroundings of the Château de Val Duchesse.

The event provided an excellent opportunity for informal exchanges with Minister Prévot and senior officials from the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ambassador greatly appreciated the Minister’s openness, warmth and personal engagement, which contributed to a welcoming and collegial atmosphere.

Such occasions highlight the importance of dialogue, mutual understanding and strong diplomatic relationships. Malta remains grateful to Belgium for fostering opportunities that strengthen connections within the diplomatic community and promote a spirit of cooperation among partners and friends.

What a day for Maltese literature!

Following a wonderful morning reading session with Maltese students at the European School, the Embassy of Malta in Brussels continued the celebrations on the evening of 25 June with a special literary event for adult audiences, this time featuring the renowned and delightfully provocative author, Guze Stagno.

The evening opened with an engaging and thoughtful supporting performance by Andre' Vella, setting the tone for a lively and memorable literary gathering. Stagno then took centre stage, captivating the audience with his signature style: bold, witty, and mischievously daring.

The night concluded in the best Maltese tradition, with a beautifully curated buffet of Maltese delicacies lovingly prepared and presented by Mr Charlo Baldacchino, spouse of Ambassador Vanni Xuereb, bringing a taste of Malta to Brussels and creating the perfect setting for conversation and connection.

On 25 June, the Embassy of Malta in Belgium dedicated the day to Maltese literature, celebrating the richness of our language and cultural heritage.

The day's programme began with a delightful reading session by Ms Nadia Abdilla at the European School in Brussels, where Maltese children from two schools were given the opportunity to engage with stories in their native language - an experience that was both meaningful and inspiring.

This activity would not have been possible without the invaluable support and commitment of Ms Daniela Caruana Lia, to whom we extend our sincere and heartfelt gratitude. Her dedication played a central role in making the event such a success.

The day’s celebrations continued into the evening with a vibrant Maltese Literature Night at the Embassy, bringing together authors, guests, and friends of Malta to further showcase and celebrate the strength and creativity of contemporary Maltese writing.

Ambassador Vanni Xuereb and his spouse Charlo Baldacchino were delighted to accompany a distinguished group of Belgian personalities in Malta this past May, as part of an initiative they were pleased to lead.

The visit offered a rich and engaging programme, highlighting Malta’s unique blend of history, culture, and contemporary dynamism, while providing opportunities to engage and explore avenues for closer collaboration.

Ambassador Xuereb is particularly grateful for the invaluable support of Heritage Malta, VisitMalta, the St John’s Co-Cathedral Foundation, and the Metropolitan Cathedral of Mdina Chapter, whose contributions ensured an authentic and memorable experience of Malta’s cultural and historical heritage.

It was a pleasure to share this experience with fellow participants, whose engagement and openness greatly enriched the programme.

Moments like these are a reminder of the power of personal encounters in diplomacy - building bridges, deepening friendships, and bringing people closer to Malta in a meaningful way. The Ambassador and Charlo look forward to seeing these connections continue to grow in the years ahead.

It was a pleasure to welcome the Hon. Chris Fearne to the Embassy of Malta in Brussels for his first visit in his capacity as Minister for Foreign and European Affairs.

This initial exchange provided a valuable opportunity to present the Embassy’s core areas of work and ongoing priorities, spanning our bilateral engagement with Belgium and Luxembourg, as well as our role as Malta’s Mission to NATO.

We discussed the main strands of the Mission’s activities, including our engagement with the Maltese communities.

I look forward to continuing our close collaboration in advancing Malta’s interests across these key portfolios.

The Prime Minister has appointed Chris Fearne as Minister for Foreign and European Affairs as part of the newly formed Cabinet following the 2026 general election, bringing to the role extensive experience as former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health.

While the Embassy of Malta in Brussels looks forward to working closely with him in strengthening Malta’s bilateral partnerships with Belgium and Luxembourg, it also expresses its appreciation to the outgoing Minister, Ian Borg for his close cooperation and engagement over the past years.
